MWuuuuuhaaaahhhhaaaahhhaaaaa.

Almost done. Little more tuning and dialing in and and then we go for a ride.
Man am I glade to have those orange cables off there. I like the MicroShoft's better than I thought I would. They aren't like Ultegra STI's but the aren't bad, and the cable pull for the brakes is sufficent, so

I also did a test fit last night on the front with a 700c wheel, to see if I could get the brakes (original Deore MT-60's) to line up. Also , which I am exceedingly pleased by.

Test ride results: Holy screeching brakes, Batman!!

Hey Knet,

Just joined the forum, first post. Very interested in your project as I'm starting my own conversion of my '86 Trek 620 to brifters. Plan on using Microshifter 3x7. World love to hear your (or anyone else) suggestions for replacing the freewheel, FD, RD, etc. Thanks for your help.

In my case I replaced the stock free wheel with a TZ21 7 speed, 14-28. The 6 speed I took off was also a 14-28, so while I gained no range, it was something my rear derailleur and stock chain could handle. I kept my stock front and rear derailleur, a Deore MT-60 and not really sure up front. Now there is a Mega Range 7 speed availble, pretty sure you would need a new rear derailleur to handle that.

I also swapped out the front brake cable hanger to a lower hanging Weinamn (I think) to help make the radius to the front brakes less severe.

That's all it took. Highly recommended swap. I was sketchy on the MicroShift brifters at first, but they are pretty good, got this dialed in fairly fast.

Thanks for the additional info. I'm going to try to keep the original FD, a Sachs Huret and Dia-Compe brakes. I have a funky 14-32 7-speed free wheel which I hope is compatiblew with the replacement RD, a Shimano Claris long cage. I'm sure I'll be reaching out as the project moves forward. Thanks again for sharing.

@swamirx, I predict that derailleur will work for you.

Old thread, I know...I'm building up an '87 Cirrus 520, and would like to know the seat post diameter: I read 27.2mm somewhere, but not a whole lot of info around, so thought I'd check here before I source one.

Thanks.
