180 miles on a '73 Moto Grand Jublie
Father's day weekend means I was riding in the Lung Association's Trek Across Maine, for the tenth time this year. I build up a C&V bike for this, and the Grand Jublie got the nod.
I set this up to haul a tired old man up big hills:
NR/Soma cage/VO jockey wheels shifted across seven cogs with authority, if not with precision.
Up front was another matter. The NR FD was out of it's depth with the TA triple. Some chain rub was unavoidable in a few combos. Never threw the chain, though, no matter how much grinding there was.
Shift, trim, shift, doubleshift, trim, ect.
The most comfortable saddle I've ever ridden over three days. I misremember which BF member sold this to me, but my butt thanks you.
The Carabassett river where the route crosses....
...and the Moto on the bridge.
The obligatory finish shot, courtesy of my daughter's iPhone:
All in all three days of almost perfect weather: sunny, not too warm, light winds blowing the right way, 2000 fellow cyclists, and beer at the finish.

Good-looking bike! Now that's what a fender line should look like.

Old man indeed. Yeah, right. You and Lee Van Cleef in For A Few Dollars More.
Well done, I say! And done again yet.
I'm looking at those gears. If I count right (and that's not necessarily the case), the granny ring is 32T, the big sprocket 30T. Just curious because I remember you saying once that some people converted to triples for that ride. So like, what sort of grade and distance combinations are the worst hills?

Great job and photos!!! I was on the CCRT this weekend and I thought of the gang. Any plans on coming down for the holiday?
I have a TA triple with NR on my '66 Paramount. Rally in the back too. Shifts really well but I don't think mine is a 7 speed.

Thank you for the report. Brooks saddle, toeclips, downtube shifters, mudguards, and red paint job -- what's not to like? Long touring-style rides are where good old steel frames really shine.
