Source for Raleigh Sports Bottom Bracket Lock Ring?
Hi All - I am overhauling a 1960 Western Flyer Tourist, which seems to be a rebranded Raleigh Sports for all intents and purposes. I was taking apart the bottom bracket and discovered that the lock ring was missing.
I learned from Sheldon Brown's site that it is 1 3/8" x 26tpi, but I can't seem to find one for sale anywhere. Ebay seems to have some sets of cones with the lock ring, but the asking price is a bit steep. Is there somewhere I can buy just a lock ring? Thanks! |
Bike co-op will have lots of them in their junk bin. I'd say most LBS will too. Take the cup with you to match up.

Do you mean on the drive side? If so, congrats for actually getting it out. But, in reality, they never had a lockring on the drive side-it seems they threaded the shell to a precise depth, then just screwed the race down until it ran out of thread, using no lockring or "shoulder". Odd method that seems common only on Raleighs.

Nope - the lock ring was missing on the non-drive side. The adjustable cone was free to move and all of the bearings had fallen out of the race. Also, one of the cranks was held on with bolt instead of a cotter, which was interesting.
I'm going to try a bike shop and see if they can hook me up. |
You'd be better off going to a Raleigh specialist. Most LBS employees probably wouldn't know the different thread pitch, and would just go and order you a 24 tpi ring (or bring one out from the back). These things are about 35 years obsolete now.

I'm out of town at the moment, but I'm pretty sure I have a spare Raleigh lockring I can send you. gratis.
PM me if you're interested. |
Hello, I know this is an old thread but I was wondering If anyone has a source for the 26TPI lockring?
