1970's Free Spirit...back from the dead.

Unfortunately, I don't have a before picture, but it was in rough shape: derailleur's didn't move, tires rotted and wouldn't hold air, chain basically seized into a solid shape...

This is my first Total Rehab or dis-assembly of any bike, including re-packing wheel bearings, Bottom bracket, and headset. I didn't get all the rust off everything, because I wasn't that persistent, but it pedals, turns, brakes, and the gears shift properly now. Cleaned and scrubbed everything, then re-assembled. New Items are: cables, housing, tires, tubes, chain, and some of the bearings. Everything else is original.

I plan to hang it on the wall in my office as a decoration...but also for when I want to ride somewhere close-by. My Internet searches tell me its probably from the 1970's. It is a Brittany Free Spirit. Thanks for looking!

Fine looking job!

Paint finish looks excellent. Did you touch it up some or was it only necessary to clean and polish?

Have no idea who made this one.

Thanks.

No, I did not touch up the paint. There are some small scratches/rust spots that I did not try to cover...just a bit of fine steel wool to remove most of the rust. As bad as the metal parts looked, the frame was in decent shape. The undersides of the fenders had a lot of rust, and more rust spots on the tops of them than the frame has
