Not much bike wrenching for me of late. So I'll include this. Found this table in Beijing about 20 years ago, all there but in pieces. And it has been that way ever since. Finally decided to restore it. Carefully, so as not to disturb too much of the three hundred year old patina. And re-assemble it, using the traditional method of hot hide glue.
It is called a Kang table.

I got a tip from @inkandsilver that this frame was for sale on another site. I had the one size smaller, loved it but rarely see the largest size for sale.
I put it together with parts on hand to see if I want to invest more into it. So far the answer is yes, so it's going to need a powder coat, drop bars and probably a 1x6 drive train.

Working on two currently.
My RockHopper has been experiencing degrading shifting in the last couple of months. I am not going to as for advice until I attack it systematically and have confidence I have adjusted everything in the right sequence. I am willing to try to provide a problem statement: It shifts like sh...
Description is that on some shifts it is fine up and down but on other sprockets, it won't go without a little nudge. It is like the spacing is not uniform. Newish cassette and chain clean and oiled. Original RD which may need to be cleaned deeply and lubed. Shifter is a twist grip that was new with the cassette and chain, switch from 7 to 8 speed.
Second is the clean up of a friends StumpJumper of the same year, 1997. I wish I had one in the right size! I like its features. It has been neglected and then stored so I don't know how successful I will be in bringing it back to life. It has some nice upgrades like Chris King rear hub. Problems include a broken spoke nipple on the rear wheel, dirt caked in the FD, RD, BB shell, tar spots on the frame, etc. Shifting is sluggish but I think that will be fixed with cleaning. Needs the typical maintenance before finally assessing any other needs. Chain is between .7 and 1.0 so will be replaced.

Thanks rootboy. Seems those of us into C&V bikes also love old machinery and furniture. Glad to see you follow the rule of "never waste good wood". My 2 small benches are cut rate, 1990's Thailand knock offs of a high end Ulmia. Made of some species of Teak. I have 2 thanks to Mrs. ollo and a "killer Audi" taking the 1st one out. I modified it greatly during reconstruction. All the others I made with Doug Fir cut-off framing beams used in construction of our present home. I dug them out of the mud before my framer hauled them off to the land fill. If I ever get my shop presentable, I will share some pics. Don

As I was doing a post-ride wipe down on my Look, I realized a few rust spots had been progressing more rapidly than I realized--particularly under the bottom bracket, bottom of top tube and brake cable guides (I'm a heavy sweater), and on the seat tube (at FD clamp area). It's been a rainy winter and I'm sometimes guilty of putting it away wet. Impulsively, I tore it down and removed paint around the affected areas that will need to be retouched. It's now sitting in an OA bath. I never treated the inside of the tubes when I first painted/rebuilt it in 2008, so it'll be nice knowing it's completely rust-free again before anything gets out of hand.

I've been working on a 1982 Sequoia lately myself. Like you, I built it up with parts on hand to see how I'd like it. I liked it a lot. I just bought a new rear derailleur for it today.

Just finished an early 80's Colnago Super for a friend.
Now multi-tasking as parts come in and problems are solved. The Wizard is nearing completion-re-space and re-dish of the rear wheel is up for this Friday. The Spectrum Super Ti is on and off the stand as I get parts in-FD clamp is wrong so I'm sorting that out now.
And my brand new mountain bike from Curtis Ingles arrives tomorrow. It is steel, so I will share some pics. Super excited.
Oh, and Mrs. P's Ritchey Break-Away is getting dialed in. The short cage Ultegra RD is really stretched with a 32 cassette, so a medium cage is one the way and I think that one is done. She is really liking the ride, even if the 34 front and smaller rear combos don't work quietly. The 50 x up to 28 work well.
Goal is to finish all of this by early March

I got this last weekend. My intentions are to leave alone other than a major cleaning. Now that the cleaning is finished I'm going to order some tires and find a Solar head lamp to fit on the stem hook. I took the bike completely apart cleaned and greased all the bearing. Rims are pretty solid and could easily be ridden, but I think this is going up on the wall. The rideable tires are $475 a pair, the display tires are $250.

Not really wrenching on the Centurion , other than I put a new saddle on it . Man that bike rides nice . Right , the bike that sent you for the sun glasses is the Nishiki Altron . I had some trial and error with the paint and stickers. Just a couple of nic nacks to go and I'm done .

I think I finally have all the parts together to finish my Montello. Here it is loaded up in the stand.

It's amazing that I'm able to get anything done with my garage in such a state.

Really pretty bored
and I haven't found a winter project bike.
So I tried a couple of setups with my "Stealth" Viscount. The 2 versions share a Viscount Aerospace frame, YST bottom bracket, seat post, saddle. Cinelli Giro bars, Origin 8 stem, Weinmann Levers, Tektro long reach 590 brakes, Pro Ace pedals and Shimano 600 Arabesque shifters & front derailleur.
The "Sport" version has a 531 round section chrome fork, Specialized 49-39 175mm cranks, a short cage Shimano 600 Arabesque rear derailleur, Shimano 600 hubs, Mavic Module E rims, Michelin 700c x 23 tires and a 13-24 freewheel.
The "Sport Touring" has a Tange #1 chrome fork, Holdsworth 48-34-28 175mm cranks, a long cage Shimano 600 Arabesque rear derailleur, SR sealed hubs, Arraya rims, Vittoria 27x1&1/8 tires, Fenders (mudguards) and a 14-28 freewheel.

Better late than never.
I've been looking for a winter project bike since late summer. So tonight I get a text from a friend at a thrift store. She said she'd found a bike (and knew Trek was a good name). So... long story made short... I have a project bike.
Early-mid 90's (?) 1220 ZX Aluminum with Shimano RSX 3x7 STI Shifters in a size 48cm (I think). Cost me $21.99 + tax.

Finally started taking apart the second of my two bargain-basement Techniums I got last spring. As found, it was set up "old man" style with the enormous riser stem, stem shifters, triple chainrings and big cogs out back. It's fairly light, has a nice brisk feel to it, not whippy as I expected a large, light composite frame to be. But the stem needs to go down for me (I aint that old, yet). So I'm taking it apart for the full degrease/refurb and some more appropriate parts.

Anybody know what year this is? It's a made-in-Seattle (actually Kent, WA) Raleigh USA. I looked at many late 80's and early 90s catalogs on line but didn't find this particular one. Red anodized aluminum tubes; black painted steel lugs and stays. Relatively slender unicrown fork labeled "4130 CroMo." Might be nice to get the original specs on this since whatever it was originally equipped with is probably not too expensive on the secondary market.

The gruppo has been, shall we say, messed around, as mentioned above. Even the original headset was swapped out at some point, for some reason. Or at the very least, the fork crown race was, as evidenced by the beer can shim here, if you look closely:

Have not done much lately. But I did swap out a DA double crank for an Ultegra triple. I swapped out and XT 730 crank for an XTR 900 and specialized BB. Pulled off and STX-RC shifter for an M-950. I have a Bontrager Race handlebar on its way that I will be installing soon.

Been building up my newly chrome-restored Super Le Tour, and added the re-pro decals last night. Lookin' good! Had the rear end spaced to 130mm from 120mm and swapped the old and rust-pitted headset with a nearly-new black Origin8 one I had lying around (black and chrome theme for the bike). Will be working more on it tonight!
