Been pawin’ through my stuff as I‘m redoing the shop areas...I ended up with these Raleigh branded Suntour derailers to replace the Simplex stuff that was taking up valuable space...shifts like a hot knife through buttah...one more shake down ride, then I’ll change out the Raleigh Red Dot tires for mo bettah ones... I also rerouted the rear brake cable to over and behind the handlebars...

Well, that instance was harmless. But on Friday I rode to work, and it happened again on my way home. This time it blew out and wrapped itself around the axle. That was one lonnnggg skid!

The rim is destroyed, and this time the damage to the tire bead was obvious. I didn't take any photos, however. I'll pull another rear wheel out of the parts bin, and the replacement tire is on the way. I'm glad this didn't happen when I was zooming down the Big Hill.

I've recently been wrenching on my buddy's Gary Fisher, which was ridden hard and put away wet for many years. Working man's bike.


He recently crashed it and put the rapidfire shifters out of commission, so I persuaded him to learn friction shifting and got him the Cadillac of thumb shifters: Suntour power!

While I’m waiting for the spokes I need to lace a Sturmey X-RF8(w) to the rear wheel shown I threw together a rough layout of my International townie build. I’m excited to get this one on the road.




Today I finally got a short ride on the Raleigh Pro Mk1 that inherited its setup from this frame, and it rides beautifully, couldn’t be happier.

I may have needed a wire brush to clean off some of the dust from that Gary Fisher. I certainly needed to dust off my Raleigh/Rampar (but strangely not Raleigh-threaded) taps and chase the BB threads before anything would screw in properly. I am only sad I didn't have any Fluid Film to spray up in the frame tubes.

BO'C was a great experience!
A lot of my colleagues and peers couldn't believe it was a thing, but immediately recognized the community in it. I almost want to go over to the SAAB forums or Honda Insight forums and start something similar for car parts. I got a pretty good haul, and will get a few bikes going with the parts

Things have been a little slow in my garage lately. I had a left hip replaced in June and my right knee done Nov. 22. I am just starting to get back in the shop to finish up some old projects and start on a new one . I painted ty French mystery bike a beautiful blue but hurried a bit with the hardware and as a result mucked up the paint in a couple places. It is hanging in the rafters waiting for me to touch up the paint and re install a couple bits and pieces. Another bike that was hanging around, a 1985 Bianchi Trofeo finally got on the stand and I did a complete service on it including some touch up on the Celeste green paint. It went back completely stock except for a 6 speed Shimano 14-28 freewheel . I swapped out the original equipment Suntour Superbe short cage for a Superbe long cage to make it a bit more hill friendly . Currently I am stripping a late sixties Botteccia Special frame and fork and hope to build it up with the original spec Campi Valentino derailleurs . I have a nice Nervar cottered crank and Universal 61 brakes that should be age appropriate.. Not sure about the bars yet. Racing drops or something more like North road with reverse levers? I am looking for an appropriate wheel set .

I thought the derailleur hanger on my Cimarron was bent and I've been meaning to straighten it. but it turns out the Deer's Head derailleur is tweaked a bit. Analysis is planned. In the meantime, I installed a 8 speed era Deore, hitched up the trailer and went grocery shopping. 3/4 of the way back and maybe a mile to go and CRAMUNCH, the Deore winds up into the freewheel -- I lost the upper pulley. Down goes the two legged kickstand and I start looking for the pulley. 30-45 minutes later, and as it's getting dark, I finally find the second cupped washer and bolt. All five pieces were found in the street while cars were passing and me without my glasses. I couldn't see to put it back together and as luck would have it, today was the day that I removed the saddle/tool bag. Nothing ever happens on a grocery run.

Not yet C&V, but it's quite the piece of engineering. 2008 Specialized Epic FSR for my son-in-law. Last night I rebuilt the rear shock with new seals, etc. from a Fox kit. Replaced numerous aluminum spoke nipples that had fused in place.

This will be an excellent bike for him.

Trying to get the FD sorted on the $20 Trek Antelope I recently acquired. As found the Front shifting didn't work at all and the derailleur itself was positioned way to far from the chain ring. I decided to remove the seat tube bottle cage just to make working on the FD easier. Its not there yet but I can now shift from small to middle ring which is progress.

Some of you may recall the Domenics frame that I bought a year ago....I am finally getting around to putting it together.
I am trying to decide what type/year group to hang on it...old school, pre 83 Campy stuff with Barcons or more modern group...Camy-brifters, Chorus or C-Record brakes etc.
Thoughts appreciated!

Thanks, I brought mine to the coop yesterday. I had the people extract the drive side bb cup. Now I'm in the quandary of what to rebuild with.

I do have a question on yours, my red one the seatpost is comprised, what does your seatpost measure? I also see yours has pump pegs that looks to be the only difference between the two. Nice build you have there.

Step 1 of the 1987 Trek 520 de-rust-ification an oxalic acid bath, don't try this at home... I used a $10 resin planter box from Home depot, taped the bottom (drain holes) with duct tape and then lined it with a cheap mylar emergency blanket (doubled) and kept the ventilation fan going. It did a good but not great job so Phase 2 will be outside with Naval jelly

We are visiting my mother in law where we keep a couple of bikes for the one visit we make every year. Yesterday we took out our bikes, and Carol said there's some thumping going on. We stopped and looked, and her tire was ripping open right on the tread. So today I rode to the bike shop and picked up a pair of tires and put them on her bike.
