Wheelset and derailleurs are SunTour Sprint. I had a set of SR Apex rings in 52/40 plus SR bolts. Used the original spider and crank arms, bottom bracket bearing. The Modolo levers and SunTour barcons were salvaged from a 1980s Peugeot that got donated. I hdd to grind and paint the lower headset race (silver) because I failed to unstick the stem. Not so shabby compared to the abused frame's condition when I received it.. Note the headtube lining...

Cable housings will be gold as will the chain. Bar tape black. Tires black (28mm). Saddle a Wrights narrow from the period. Ugh...what a project. Most of the parts were on-hand, so I bought the mistreated frame.

Trying and failing to build a front wheel.

I'm going to have to take everything apart and measure again to see if I missed something.
I should have plenty of room with 3-cross and 278mm spokes on this rim but in 3-cross I cannot for the life of me connect the 3rd lacing and only 2-cross seems to work but has too long a spoke of course.
The twisting of the hub after the first two sides doesn't connect cleanly either so no idea what's going on here.

It's almost like this hub is weird, or a couple of different sized spokes snuck in here.

Found the culprits. I need 278mm spokes for this wheel and the shop sent me two 268mm spokes which ended up in my first two sides. A whole cm (0.4 inch) too short completely messed things up but because I was looking at the last number it didn't stand out until I measured every single individual spoke.
The wheel is almost finished. I just need to pop by a bikeshop tomorrow and buy two spokes in the correct length. There are some weird tensions going on right now but I will figure things out in daylight.

Not a great picture but I have been building up this Zeus Competition that I bought over the summer. The frame is 531 main tubes and I think the rest is Durifort tubing. My plan is to outfit it with Zeus Criterium components and Zeus Super Alfa brakes. I think its around a 1972 or 73 bike. This is the second Zeus I have had but the first one in my size.

Curious about the cleaning, when you used the polish, did it remove the anodizing....I like the matt finish on some of my parts and don't want it removed.

Today has been a little bit of everything for me. Cut about 2 inches off my son's Mountain Bike Seat tube for him. That'll keep him happy until he can afford a true dropper seatpost. I also sorted out some wheel issues with the Lecoulant bike. Re-centerd the axle on an old set of Superbe hubbed tubulars that will be going on my Opus II eventually also.

And then I fought some more with the Stella. Got the right crank puller in for the Stronglight crank but found jacked up threads on the driveside so unable to pull that yet. Need to sort it out somehow. Cleaned up all the parts I could get off and did some more polishing of others. Oh and I got a better fitting toothed spacer for the headset on it. Just had to file away on the flat keyed portion of the spacer to get it to fit on the steere. No flat spot on this steerer.

I've got the Ochsner staring at me right now. Figuring on pulling the Shimano 600 7 speed DT setup for a Dura Ace 7400 8 speed STI setup. Not sure if I'm going to start that project this evening or not.

All wheels are installed and the front light is connected (with a cable running through the fork) to the dynohub.
I still have more fine-tuning to do but I have presents to pack for a gift exchange later today.

The headlight is definitely something I will check out once I wire up everything to the rear. Not sure whether I will keep the sidewall dynamo on. It's no longer connected to anything but does fit the looks of the bike.

been chasing a noise- clicking/creaking/annoying- for about a week.
thought it was just a dirty chain, but after replacing the chain, cleaning the drive train and pulleys, replacing the cassette and changing rear wheels, I think I got grit in the free hub.

i was hoping for a cracked frame so I could get a new XOXO from Handsome Cycles. But no joy. Pretty sure it’s a noisy hub.

next project is to disassemble the Velocity hub
or figure out how to.....

I'm a novice when it comes to polishing. I'm only cleaning off dried grease (softening it up with WD40, alcohol or lighter fluid), then using jewelers files to deburr any rough spots, then gently hand polishing the anodized parts with Mother's polishing compound. I'm not using steel wool or rubbing too hard so the anodized finish is not harmed. In the future I plan on removing the anodized finish on some parts and machine polish them to a high gloss finish, but for now I'm just doing a major cleanup and am not too aggressive in polishing anodized parts.

4th Gen Craftsman 3/8" ratchet.
We find so many ratchet handles on the road. How many go to the trouble to get the rebuild kit? I do for Snap-On wrenches, for sure. This one deserved some love...

You can't have too many of those old Craftsman ratchets, a stint laying on the road after a long standard deployment is what it takes to sideline them.

Normally bulletproof for regular constant use, great fit, great lever placement for switching on the fly, all good imo.

I have 2 or 3 that are at least 30+ years old, they are the ones my hand goes to when I reach for a ratchet of which I have at least a dozen 3/8 standards like them.
