I don't think so. I've had the same brake pads on that bike since before covid, with zero adjustment, so it would have shown up sooner. They're cantilevers, so wear would make them lower, not higher. They are hitting the rim well below the edge at this point.

I have a history of putting too little air in my tires (as evidenced by the fact that it didn't blow out even though I could see the tube bulging) and not cleaning the bike. I've had sand and grit stick along the rim edge and do this to an older tire before.

A riding buddy wants to part company with his Le Tour, so I offered to clean it up. Early on he had the original crank upgraded, so I suggested I put the original back on. The pull was a first gen Dura-Ace.
Using the aluminum foil trick on chrome rust.

it almost works, though. . i like the orange wrap. and, such a pretty blue. did you paint/powder it? can't wait to see this one done

It almost works, and in my head it was great. In practice, though. Nope, I don't think so. The color is Krylon Fusion gloss baby blue. And It's *exactly* what I was going for.

hmm..... that bears a certain resemblance to a Michelin that developed a bulge, and then the tube found its way around the layers of cords and blew out.
It appeared to me that the layers of cords just quit sticking to each other, i.e. "delamination", which meant that they didn't share the load, which put all of the load on the outer layer. That eventually caused the tread to separate from the sidewall at a few different locations.
The tire was only lightly used, but maybe 5 or more years old.



On the plus side, the walk home was only a mile and it was a nice day.

Gitane tour de france

I got an awesome set of gold anodized mafac competition brakes and levers this week on the local market (offerup), and I plan to upgrade my 1972 Gitane TDF this weekend. It currently has aero shimano 105 levers from the previous owner that I have always hated on this classic French bike. I'll post photos when it's complete!

These Peugeots have a special place in my heart, love to see one getting some much deserved attention.

I had one from that era that I rode all over Germany in the 80's. Same decal scheme just beige in color with a crome fork, fenders, rear rack, bottle generator and lights. My main transportation when I didn't want to drive and for long weekend touring rides. No clue what model it even was but man do I have a lot of good memories of that one.

Well this morning a finally addressed the headset on the Paletti. Been having issues since the first couple of rides after it was built up. Kept loosening. At first I thought it just wasn't tightened correctly then it kept happening. Finally took a close look at it a couple of weeks ago and saw that the stock spacer was not truely engaged. So either the cut was off a tad on the steerer or the cups settled a bit. At least that's what I'm guessing . I finally dug into my parts bin, found another spacer and installed that. Everything looks properly engaged now. I'll take 'er out this morning to see if I can now get this one into the 19 mph club. Then I guess I need to tackle that clicking drivetrain on the Giordana. I'll throw on a new chain since the KMC XL has a couple of thousand miles on it and then swap the Keo pedals. If that's not it I don't know. It's like two tics per crank rotatation but does vary by gear. So I'm really thinking chain over anything.

Anyway I'm really looking forward to getting a good ride on the Paletti this morning. The last trip out was aborted at the mile mile point when I noticed the headset had come loose again. Figure crossed I got it this time.


This bike is so gorgeous!

And to update: Headset is fine after a fairly fast 26 mile ride!

Not really worked on it recently (if we consider a week recently) but it is about done, at some point I might touch the headset or the hubs and repack them but not this year since I already have my road bike in pieces for too long and don't want to be stuck with nothing usable because it seems any time I order parts, I get the wrong ones, they get delayed, or all of the above.

i was Gifted this Peugeot. I normally wouldn’t have looked at a Peugeot for a project as I’m normally a Cannondale man. But- I was threatened by the Gifter that he would put it out on the curb for the recycling truck if I didn’t take it … couldn’t let that happen. So, it’s out of the Hospice ward and into the ICU … By Spring , will be as good as almost new.
Btw, can I see more of the Paletti?

I'm currently in a love/hate relationship with a Cannondale CAAD8. It should be really fast but instead I'm having to pedal my butt off to make it go. Got in from the ride yesterday and found a loose crank arm on it. I'm loosing a lot of power through the drivetrain somehow even though I can't find anything wrong.

My recently acquired Tim Neenan Lighthouse has a sizable chunk of an old stem quill stuck inside it.



So I disassembled and reassembled the hacksaw with the blade inside and went to work. The first cut is almost all the way through to the steerer, the second cut is maybe 3/4 of the way. I’ll finish that one and do one or two more and whack on it again and see if I can take it out in stages.

I finally took my Colnago apart to send out for painting. I have been busy at work so I didn’t have time to get to it for a week after being notified by Jack at Franklin Frame that my turn has come. Now it is in the modified bike box from Trek and I will drop it off tomorrow for its trip to Ohio. I have been riding it the way it came to me since November of last year. I am having it done in the same color it is with new decals and clear coat.

Motobecane mod complete.

1978/9 Grand Touring completed with flat bars and thumbies. Came out really well I think. We shall see if the recipient thinks so as well!

Ok, this morning I started working on another small problem. Clicking felt in the pedal of the Giordana every couple of crank rotations that seems to vary with the gear. I can't duplicate on the bike stand. Happens even when standing. So this morning I awapped in a different set of pedals that I know are ok. The chain measures good and doesn't seem to have a stiff link or such. But it is a KMC 11 SL with over 2000 miles. Measures ok but I swapped in a new one anyway. The chainring bolts seem tight also, as do all the spokes on the rear wheel. I don't see any issues with either chainring teeth or cassette. I did find the handlebar clamp on the bars a bit loose. Fingers crossed I got it. If not I'm at a loss. Not thinking BB since it's not every rotation.



Gonna shoot for a fast ride today but my legs are quite tired from the hard effort of the past two days.

That's from when the bike was originally built up. Should have spotted the problem right then. I basically grabbed another spacer of the same size and put it on yesterday. I think the lock nut was just bottoming out on the top of the steerer.
