This morning I just made a few changes on the Kuwahara. Swapped the GP 4000s 700 x 28 for some new Vittoria Corsa G 2.0 700 x 30 (couldn't find 700 x 32 in stock anywhere) hoping they'd be a bit larger on the Mavic G 40 rims. On my other bikes this Vittoria's measure larger than size but on this one they only came in around 28mm. Hopefully they'll "grow" a bit over the next couple of days. No big deal though as I like how the labeling on these has the red to match up with the bike. I also swapped in the black Gyes leather saddle for today. Finally I adjusted the rear brake caliper that was setup too tight for these rims. Bike is now an even 24 lbs.

Today was a day for building a wheel, and then a trip to the co-op to volunteer for a few hours. Finished the wheel and then installed a pair of 20c foldable tires with a pair of new Torelli tubes. Looks like Bwilli's Raleigh will be sporting some new shoes soon. Smiles, MH

Soooo,
Aquired this 2005(?) Kestrel Talon SL on Thursday.


After a wash job, inspection, and saddle/pedal/rear brake adjustments- off on a 20 mile test ride thru Carrollton.
This bike performed like a new bike … no cracks, groans, clicks, wobbles, or missed shifts. It’s Shiny too! Needs tires, seat, pedals replace tri setup with road cockpit and cosmetic detail.
Tear down will start in October ...
I think the Baby Raptor has found a forever home.

I came across some free lumber set out on the curb: two 8 ft. 6x8s and a 10 ft. 2x12.
Rolled the 2x12 home by balancing it on my winter mtb beater.
Currently cutting and sanding them for a garage table to put an old bench grinder and a vise on top of.

Found some play on the BB of the Raliegh Team USA as I was doing a preride check on it. Pulled off the one crank arm, adjusted the BB, and then reinstalled the arm.
I'll have to keep an eye on this to make sure I've got it locked in good now.

Here's the ol' beast up in the mountains later in the morning.

The celeste shift cable housing came in so I swapped out the old original coiled housing on the RD with the new Jagwire housing and a new cable. Also made a minor brake adjustment too. Tempted to throw some new Campagnolo Zonda's on just for a ride or two but not today. May also bump up the tire size a bit too. But I'm close to done with this. I'll probably enjoy it the rest of the year and then move it on in the spring since it is pretty small for me.

I haven’t been wrenching this morning but doing some rummaging. I’ve been collecting wheels, rims in the living/bike room lately so I need to go through the bags and straighten things up. I found a few things I kinda forgot about and something I’ve been looking for since I moved to Shady spines two years ago.

Sorting and retagging the bags.




I sort of forgot I had these apparently really nice Vittoria tires. There is also a NOS GP-4 32h!




Every now I then I root through my tool boxes, parts boxes and miscellaneous stuff looking for these misplaced “Chicago Bolts” (they are pretty spendy too) to no avail. I finally found them and my Speed Metal Ti Allen wrench skewers in a wheel bag. Apparently when I moved from Pa I put the Lightening disc in a bag with the bolts. Removed the disc to take pics at some point and promptly forgot where the I left the bolts!

BTW, this is a simple Lexan plastic cover that bolts onto your rear wheel. You actually ordered them to fit the inside diameter of the rim. Mine is for a MA-40 with a freewheel so it doesn’t quite fit right in a tubular. They were mostly marketed to TriGeeks

PS. I also came across a pair of Servo Corse tires I must have bought around 2012 relaxing on some NOS 32h AVA rims.

Second time I've had to do cosmetic and slight structural repair on this Flite Evolution (this time, the damage was sustained after being hit by a car):











Don't know if I trust this anymore at this point. Certainly I don't want it to crack, and possibly put a shard of CF into my posterior! But I did want to save the appearance, and I think I succeeded.

Cleaned up this Fiorelli



Cleaned this up to ride and see if it was straight. It is. Fun ride. Regina was not doing well. Gave the inside a de-rust, followed by a 20 weight hot oil purge. Load of crud, and works much better.

Agree on all counts.

I wonder if a big piece of helicopter/200 mph tape or some such could be stretch wrap adhered to maintain integrity, maybe.

Or you could have Rudy do a Unicanitor style cover on it.

Also seems like you could lay in a reinforcing layer underneath to backstop it.

I finally got around to overhauling the BB and brakes on the '74 Professional I picked up a few months ago. Trying to decide whether to buy some tubbies for the original wheels or just relace to clinchers.

Bar swap on my RockHopper - reduced the number of clamp joints by 66.7%
- man, can’t believe I spent this much on this bike…. Frustration not being able to get a used for the last 2 years…. And don’t see bullmoose bars in stock often. Now swap to a silver seatpost!!

I have a patina-Ed version of this in blue frame. Do you know what tubing it has? Tough to make out the sticker.

i always thought it might be Falck or Columbus Aelle.

I decided that I’d reached the point of diminishing returns (and temperatures) and decided to prime the Falcon frame. I attacked a few more bits, masked the stays, wiped it down and hit it with spray.bike primer out in shed #3 which is a former standby generator shed. I’d rate my coverage 90%, and as expected it revealed a few spots that rub my OCD-ness just right. So I’ll tend to them next weekend and see if I can get the color on it. Decals from Greg Softley are clearing customs, some may go down before the 2K gloss coat, specifically the Reynolds ones and maybe the “Ernie Clements” ones, but I’m thinking of putting the foil Falcon ones on top. Can’t say why. Change my mind?
