Here's my latest.
A 1971 Schwinn Racer 3 speed.
I installed a 24 tooth rear cog to give it better gear ratio. With this low is good for hills 2 for level and 3 for down hill.
I figure the Schwinn "racing saddle has to be at least as comfortable as the old Messinger.

Coincidence - this morning I dragged home a Coppertone 1964 Traveler. No wrenching on it yet but it is complete and has the original Schwinn tire on the front.

Interesting week here in Scrooge McDuck land. I was forced to replace the left front wheel bearing assembly on the 2001 Chevy, and finished up today hauling off all of the recycle-able steel frames and such. Spent the balance of the afternoon clipping hubs out of alloy wheels for recycling. Bonus was a few frames that are keepers. A mixte Schwinn, a Nishiki road frame, and a Peugeot that will need the fork straightened. Smiles, SM

Tonight was just "prep" work. Put a brand new set of GP 5000 tires on the Colnago C40 in replacement of the Gatorskins I got it with. Then I did a polish and wax of the Kestrel Frame. Next up will be measuring it for a headset.

I've been doing a thread for my Trash Day Kuwahara, but I thought I'd add a post here for a weird little piece of hardware I found. I'm making a touring rig out of this free 80's mtb, but the rack and fender mounts are all M6. I'm using some old Vetta racks, which really don't look like they need to lose any material around the mounting holes, so I found these step studs online. They go from M6 to M5 (which the racks are drilled for), with an unthreaded bit in between. Available in a few lengths. Rust could be a problem, but I'll just slather them in grease.

Life Is Good!!! My frame mods are done (cantilever posts and a few braze-ons) and I can pick it up on Monday, I could have had it tonight but work... Photos and stuff to follow.
The levers were an issue as all the aero modern stuff looked really out of place clamped to crit bars. So what to do... I went through my vintage stuff and found a set of NOS Mafac gold anodized levers and in an instant I became a happy camper, I think the look is good, simple clean, and proper even with the 1976 disco gold anodizing. These are the fifth set of levers I have had on these bars...

I went to my bike tech twice today he found a bontager seat post that for my Trek I exchanged him for my roox seat post , found a seat post for the jamis and the daccordi is going to be welded next and repainted week. Beginning of July , I will pay him for the head set fittings on the other bikes and the repair and I will bring parts for assembling the jamis mtb and the trek mtb, the road bikes will wait to have their assembly in September. I will have to buy one more pair of cosmic wheels for my veneto and maybe a pair cosmic carbon or zipp carbon wheels for the Daccordi as well as 6 pairs of ST 7800 Dura Ace STI spare shifters and 5 pairs of Derore XT 8000 spare shifters but this will happen in August.

I really love the lugs too, which is a shame since the chrome is completely shot on them. Literally that photo shows the only remaining chrome on them. I don't think this one had 531, that one came on a later rendition in around 1974. But, while this one might just be a hi-ten frame, it's got potential to be a lightweight.

Dynamo and headlight work but brake pads are likely original so those need to be replaced. Pedals are present but not attached. They came off quite easily and are in good condition.





Any insight what the thing on the right side seat stay is? The square bar in the center of it is spring loaded.

If anyone still remembers my post from last Friday I showed pictures of a just completed Schwin Racer.
Well, here is it's companion, a matching green Schwinn Colegiate that I fiinished today



The Collegiate was in even better shape than the Racer, with only minor touch ups and thourough cleaning and polishing needed. I did swap out the bars for an aluminum set which fit the stem better. The old ones were really too fat for the Schwinn forged stem . I also changed the Schwinn Derailleur for a nice old Suntour 7 Gt I had (with a Raleigh Logo on it). New cables and Kenda gum walls completed the build. I waxed this one rather than clear coating as the paint was very nice and didn't need it. I was going to swap the stem with the one on my 48 New World but they aren't the same diameter, the New World's being slightly thicker.
Here is the Racer again. They make a nice pair.

I have those Schwalbe CX Comp tires in 35 on my gravel bike project. After just a few rides I'm really liking them. A few very "gravelly" gravel roads and so far no issues. I'm generally about 75/25 road/gravel and they do roll very smooth on the road. Very interested to see how your project turns out. Really like that frame :^)

1993 Trek 750
I've been making progress on a 1993 Trek 750 I picked up earlier this year. I've been looking for one of these for a while on and off so I was happy when this popped up on CL. The paint looks great on this bike.
I mounted tires on the wheels (Schwalbe Marathon 700 x 38c tires), overhauled the hubs and headset, used framesaver inside the tubes, used clear nail polish to deal with the few spots of missing paint, and waxed the frame. I also figured out the build and collected the parts. I'm sticking with 3 x 7 and going with 46/36/24 chainrings and an 11-28 cassette. That was stock gearing for many MTBs back in the day and it gives a nice wide range of gearing very suitable for touring as well. Time to build a bike.
