No C&V wrenching this week, other than tire changing, wheel swapping. I did mount tires on the wheels that speedevil laced up for me.

But otherwise, very tedious cable routing. TT bars need about 4 hands...

They were kinda cool. I built one of spare parts (650c wheelset) and pretty much gave it away. She was thrilled, and still has it.

I have no experience with that, either.

It's a build for a Florida triathlete. I'm sending it with a new (zero-setback) seat post and 3 stems to a shop there to let them fit it. My guess is once the saddle is adjusted, the stem will be lowered 10mm. If that doesn't work, the other stems are -17 degrees, range, 80,90,100. Her road bike is a 51cm with a 100mm stem.

The owner wanted a top-notch model of this, last offered in 2016 for $6000. I found a NIB lower-end model (same frame/fork/headset) and stripped it. Then I went after DA9000 or better and built it back up. With 2 sets of wheels, it will run $2500 less than the top model, have better parts, and be a full pound lighter.

It could be even lighter, but she'll be swapping wheels, so I stuck with clinchers, with braking surfaces, to make the swap easier.

Pretty sure the bike will always live above 20mph.

I'm getting there. I had a black Brooks pro set for this but when i went to put it on, I noticed it had a broken tension screw. The pro on it in this picture is dark brown. I need to decide. If i keep the brown saddle i have another set of levers with brown hoods. Get another black Brooks Pro, or use a nice mint old Selle Italia Flite Titanium?

I sent it to him. I hope so. If not, I need to be ready. I had a black pro in mind to offset the black accent of the Super Record group. The Brooks would look correct, is comforable, but on long rides makes my penis numb. I have to stand up and ride to let the blood flow for a bit. The Flite are the most comfortable saddles I own. I forget it is there, Tough choice really. It is better to look good than to feel good I guess?

I got tired of trying to get the SX610 from hitting my 24t and 28t rings in the rear so I swapped in a Suntour VX GT. Working great and it actually feels lighter than the Simplex.



I then moved to the PH10L project and put on the new 27 X 1 1/8" Bontrager tires that showed up from Gregg's Cycles today.

Bought this back in 2009 in Iowa got it hauled home, rode it a bit right after I bought it and it has been hanging in the shed ever since. Got the bug to get it back up to speed.

1979 Raleigh DL-1, added a new rear rack, rear wheel had a bad hop in it, managed to get most of that out, cleaned up the rims and put new tubes in, new saddle tomorrow and a riding we will go. I will get some beauty shots tomorrow. It has been pouring rain here most of the day.

Agreed - got them on a lot of my bikes. However, I really like the Simplex SX derailleurs. If it wasn't for the tension issue I'd still be using it - unbelievably quiet and shifted nice and smooth

havnt been fortunate enough to acquire any simplex derailleurs but since i run all my bikes with friction bar ends i find old suntours to be terrific rds.

I got my '74 Paramount back together at the beginning of last week. A new (used) headset and a bit of a 'parts bin' build build. I had picked up 35mm Paselas for a great deal (just had to clean them) a few weeks back and now mounted them to wheels where their satin finish matched the Paramount's. I waxed the Paramount as well to bring it out of Matte Finish Land, to decent success. Generally a satin or semi-gloss now. Continuing the rebel theme of this Paramount--as it has been since I took possession of the frame--I went with a modern look on some of the pieces (aka black painted) that I knew would be simultaneously traditionally-out-of-character and yet in character or complementary with regard to this particular frame. Much like stage lighting, certain areas of the bike were 'darkened' or made to stand out less, letting other elements come more into the foreground. Odd pivot geometry dashed my plans to employ semi-gloss no-name brake calipers, so some (very nice) silver RX100 units had to do. All-black crankset in an all-black area. High polish rear derailleur in the high polish (or chrome) section. Black saddle and seat post, black bar, stem, and bar tape. All the polished silver pieces now really pop, with the tan tire side walls adding good color and visual interest. I reused the chain from my Peloton (a 410mm chain stay frame) on this, which worked great with the planned-on-using-it FSA compact crankset (50-34T). A 12-27T 9-speed cassette is mounted out back and with a low gear of 34-27, it gives me a good improvement in hill climbing over my normal road double low ratio of 39-28.

The bike looks killer to me. And those touring (or sport touring) length 43.5cm chain stays do not flop around. I mean, I'd still love to build and ride a P13 with shorter stays, but this P15 is no slouch when out of the saddle. I rode the tires at 60 psi front and rear and it felt great. I do notice a touch of wheel flop now due to the increased trail provided by the taller tires, something that I like and that calms the front end down (it is normally quite alert in eagerness to steer). Such a comfortable ride, though some adjustments will need to be made. I'll bump up the pressure to 62-63 in front and 67-68 in the rear and redo the crankset spindle/bearing pre-load as it drags--just feeling a touch of drag in the system and want to remedy it. So close as it is now, though.
