bad picture here, sorry. This bike came to me complete and almost original plus in fantastic condition. I am using the RSX group again on it. The original fork is Cro-mo which I will keep. The CF fork is a match for the original and I can switch the two back and forth as desired. Thanks for asking!

Today was the organization day. Started by putting together the hoped for parts lists for both the '77 PX-10 and the '86 Rossin RL. Then put together the big list: All upgrades, maintenances and (in one case) rebuild of the current collection. Have the front wheel rim and rear carrier for the 40's Rollfast girl's bike ready to go for the powder coater (tried dropping it off yesterday, they were closed). And, finally, doing bits of reorganizing the shop, getting it ready to go.

Traditionally, I start twirling wrenches immediately after the Westminster, MD swap meet, three weeks from now.

Finally wrapped the bars on my wife’s bicycle. I probably should have pushed harder for the Neubaums eggplant color. We both decided that it looks a little crazy.

Well, I've decluttered my desk.

Where a set of 'old' Campagnolo 9-speed brifters had been sitting around for a couple of years waiting for an application. Finally decided to put them on my AD Inter 10. Combined with a 5-speed block, a Deore RD and a SunTour FD. Works as described. That feels good too.

Now if only they would stop throwing salt on our roads ...

I think it looks fine. That bike needs a little color. Red would have worked well too.

Finished this project today with bits and pieces from my parts bins. The Surly fork made up the slack head angle of the Comp FS. Had a set of Origin 8 cantis laying around. The front cable hanger I ordered just happened to be Origin 8 too. If it rides good, it will be my "Winter" roadie since I don't want my Trek 560 getting anymore wet than it has.

@Slightspeed, you won't regret putting the SunTour derailleur on. Simplex derailleurs are cool but not durable, and it's more trouble than it's worth it to fix yours. You could get another one like it, waiting for a long time and paying a lot, and it won't last as long as a SunTour. I just sold an old SunTour rear derailleur to a forum member, and it made me realize it's been in continuous service for about 35 years, and it is still working as well as new.
@noglider and @Lascauxcaveman, I wouldn't argue with Tom's experience of the Treks he actually handled, and all those parts you have on your bike. It sounds quite plausible for Trek. You could just go the the Vintage Trek site, pull up the .pdf of the 1983 models and see what Trek said they were using as OEM back then for that model. I recall they have tons of serial numbers in those couple of years, so one problem they faced was to buy enough of the specified parts to actually assemble all those bicycles - also a problem for Schwinn and Raleigh. Equivalently, their engineers needed to verify that all the parts they wanted to use were actually available in guaranteed supply quantities.

Anyway, I don't see anything on that Trek that is not reasonable for that bike's style. In pure function I might go a different way. My 610 has become a mule (aka "test platform"), on which any wild-** thing might appear. I especially approve of the Huret drivetrain and Maillard hubs. I had one Helico on my 1984 610 and dumped the wheelset, but honestly I didn't try too hard to maintain it. But more power to you for having one that functions! Unfortunately replacing the freewheel implies a much bigger modification, depending how PC you want it to be.

I got the bike from the curb on bulk trash day. It had already been upgraded with various things including a sealed bearing BB whose brand I don't remember. I'm pretty sure it's English thread. I'm going on that assumption, and I'll soon find out if I'm wrong. The headset may be 26 tpi, but that's OK, as it's still working fine.

Indeed. I had all these early-80s Trek-type components I had accumulated over the last couple years and was thinking, "Now all I need is someone to give me a minty 720 frame and I'm all set!"

So, it turned out instead to be a more weathered 600 frame as a freebie; I'm OK with that. And if someone gives me a minty 720 frame someday, I can move the parts over easily enough

I like! That’s the kinda frame, set up I was thing of for a winter runner. But... the Trek was too nice... the hunt goes on.

Thanks Law! Took it out this morning. It rode great save for a worn 1st gear. I'll replace it this week.

I finally got the Peugeot back on the road after getting a newer Simplex derailleur from France, thanks Ebay. It took a little tweaking, but it seems to work again. I have a spare VGT Luxe in case this one dies, but I like the classic Simplex look. The pivot spring on the original was sprung out of shape, and I couldn't figure how to fix it, so I found another, even had the Peugeot logo plate, win win!



Simplex SX 410, old, broken, and newer.
