Why do you believe this to be an old "Six-Day" track bike?

Robert Dean makes tires.

Congrats on having a gem of a bike! I don’t know if you had seen any of the threads I posted on the process of restoring an 1898 Glenwood track/pathracer. Here is a link:

Glenwood Barn Find

My biggest challenge was finding proper era tubulars. I ended up with a 33mm Challenge cyclocross tubular just to get it on the road. Here is the finished product:

My experience

I have a 1924 Mead Ranger which came with metal clads, technically wood rims covered with metal that was nickel plated. I wanted to be able to ride it so I built up wheels using Velocity Blunts which closely match the metal clads. If I had wanted them to look more original, I suppose I could've had them nickel plated. The problem with tubulars, you want at least a 700X38 to be in the right proportion to the original single tube tires. My wife's Diamond Back Avail had tires of that size & the tread is similar to the tread style of the period so I stole them from the Avail. If you go to the CABE forum you will find that the Velocity Blunts are popular modern replacements for metal clad rims. My father told me that to repair the tires on his Mead, one used a tool which inserted a rubber strip onto the hole , then burned off the piece sticking out, something like the plug used to repair automobile tubeless tires.
