My 1985 T.J. Quick (Tommy Quick). Built in his own shop after Holdsworth closed their doors. Tommy was the head builder at Holdsworth from 1970 till their doors closed.
It is 18.5 pounds of Fillet Brazed Columbus SLX and will run circles around my Cinelli SC. Full DA 7700 (brakes are DA 7800).

Still, handsome bike.
Also, of note that in the Pinarello Museum in Italy at least at the last set of images I saw of the place, the museum ignores the 1984 Olympic victory.
Got to watch that race in person, what a breakaway.

The original poster child, an '85 Raleigh. Now my climber. Since then, I've had speedevil build some beautiful dark anodized Matrix ISO-CII's onto some DA7402 hubs.

My 1985 Specialized Sequoia. Fits like a glove and set up really nicely for my riding style, right out of the box!

To see that history making finish must have been unforgettable. Leading up to the Olympics and Grewal being readmitted to the squad surely was enough drama.

Can understand, sort of... the feeling of Pinarello and company.

Indeed Grewal rode a Pinarello and was also a frequent patron - sponsored by Denver Spoke. The '85 Basso above came from the same shop, obviously became a popular paint scheme (Arco) sell after his Gold. Apparently the Gita importer and owner of Denver Spoke came up with it.

I acquired the tired looking frameset to retire a far worse looking and rather dangerously rusted '77 Basso. Though back to Pinarello, I almost pulled the trigger last summer for an 84 Arco commemorative painted with chrome stays and fork. More remarkable because it was local and corrosion free.

With the storyline and color combination they also seem whimsical -remind me of loud Italians.

What a great thread. Too many nice samples to call out a few. I enjoyed it the first time around, but I didn't yet own my '85 De Rosa Pro when this thread first made the rounds.

1985 Cannondale SM600. This has the 24/26 wheels and a very high BB. I built this up new when I worked at a Bike Shop and it is still in great shape. I made a few changes early on. When I switched the steel fork for the SR Litage aluminum, I couldn't use the Rollercams anymore. I got Pedersen Self Energizing cantilevers for the front; they later discontinued front versions because they were supposedly too strong (?). I've never had a problem with them. I love this bike!

Well I guess now that I know more this one qualifies. According to Eddy Martens of Martelly bikes he built this in 1985.

Here's my 1985 Treks! The 720 is the maroon one- it''s been updated to 10 speed x 3. Phil Wood hubs, Dura Ace derailleurs, Suntoiur XC Pro brakes, Tektro RRL levers and 10 speed Suntour Command Shifters...

And my 1985 Trek 620- I sort of have it built sorta like someone updated it in like 1993 or so. Six speed freewheel, Suntour Command Shifters, Suntour XC Comp derailleur, Avocet hubs...
My winter project is to update it in the same manner as the 720.

Another Ironman

Several on this thread already, but this is one I got last fall in near stock condition. The seat on it now came with it. I am changing a few things but keeping all the stock parts.
I switched out the tires, freewheel, chain, 42 tooth stock front chainring and bar tape. I also took off one water bottle holder.

Parts added were the computer, mirror, bag, and pump. Several pics posted on this forum show these Dia Compe aero brake levers on 85s also, and the seat post is a Sugino.

I may replace the seat eventually too. I only have less than 50 miles ridden on this one so far.

Not sure on the year of this Schwinn Voyageur 11.8 (anyone know? All chrome?), but it was my first road bike. This was the 1986 USTS Triathlon in Solana Beach, near where I live now.

And the Fontana Bike Race, same bike. (Yes, that is an Aerodyne helmet and I'm wearing a trash bag in lieu of a rain jacket. 8D)
