Masi's 90th Birthday in Carlsbad Village, 7/30

I just found out there's a Masi 90th Anniversary celebration happening in my town (Carlsbad Village, CA) at the end of the month. Am going to try to have my '84 Gran Criterium built up with NOS Ultegra tricolor in time for the event. Anyone else coming?
They're screening "Breaking Away", Dennis Christopher will be there, and they have a museum including the original Masi from the movie.

If I were still in town I would check it out. Got home last night and won't be back for a few weeks. I only took a fixed gear with me though so I might have been a little out of place :-)

Maybe.
The Sunday ride may work.
I was to be quite a ways north of there.
Last I looked there was scant info on the ride, 7:30 am Sunday but where?

You guys seriously screwed the pooch by missing this. Dennis Christopher autographed my Masi 90th book just as I requested: "Live Long and Prosper?!" haha! I told him it was because of his Star Trek appearances:
His face wrinkled up in mock disgust: "Are you some kind of Trekkie or something?"
"Of course! You're not?!?!"
There were about 130-150 people who showed up for the Masi ride. Lots of neat old bikes from the 60's 70's and 80's. And a few of the new carbon jobbies. They gave out ...free beer! at the museum AND after the ride (along with post-ride pizza!) Didn't cost anything, but they did have the Pablove Cancer donation box right behind the beer cooler at the end of the ride. There was abundance & generosity like I've never seen before--maybe the best biking event I've ever attended.
Plenty of pics to follow, but unfortunately I didn't bring my camera to the ride today--the museum had some beautiful old bikes (a few even before Campagnolo!) but the real parade of masterpieces was on the ride today. Met so many Masisti, many from LA, some from AZ, and one guy who came here from Italy.
Saw a Lemond just like mine, another guy with a Gran Criterium just like mine--identical year, lugs, and even color; and Terah found her Gran Corsa's twin--same size even.
And of course Chuck & Gretchen of Pacific Coast Cycles were there. Funny how many vintage bike enthusiasts live around me that I've never met before. I was also stunned to learn that Campagnolo-North America's headquarters are about 3 miles from my home?!?!
And my friend Eric at Revolution in Solana Beach won the new Masi frameset at the raffle--a delight to watch him win that.
There'll never be another event like this. It was just unbelievable.

And then Terah and I went for an ocean swim at Tamarack and returned a cellphone we found on our way home from Breaking Away last night.

Sounds like you and Terah had a fantastic weekend, makes me about three times as jealous as I was when I read your OP on this event. Good report, but you get three demerits for not having a camera to feed our addiction to pics.

Really kicking myself for not bringing my camera for the Sunday morning ride--that was the real museum.

Someone did a pretty faithful recreation of this older Masi. Kind of a neat before-after contrast.

Chuck told me the 1954 Special Corsa was truly a special bike because it predated Campagnolo. I must have misunderstood him, because apparently they were founded in 1933. It was pretty noisy with all the conversation and Dave Stoller signing autographs. My friend Eric got some shots of me getting Dennis Christopher's autograph in my Masi book. Will include those as soon as I get them.

It was a lovely time, and it lasted all weekend! Can't wait for the next 90th Anniversary!!
