Advise... specialized tarmac 2008 vs colnago C40 mk1

Hi !

Have something to ask to you...

I have two bikes one Specialized tarmac 2008 quickstep edition and a colnago C40 mapei edition the first one without Bstay

Two ones with campy record... I must keep only one but I love them both...

Which on is the best ?

Thanks a lot for your help !

Your in C&V asking which one to keep, Specialized or Colnago?

The answer is always Colnago (that's also the answer to a lot of other life questions as well)

Specialized tarmac is not so classic but colnago yes, so I hesitate a lot in wich section is the best to post the thread

So you already own both of these bikes? If so you should know the answer. I have a C40 a little bit older than yours. My wife has a Tarmac and it's a very good bike but those are dime a dozen as it were. The C40, especially in Mapei colors is in it's own class. True answer should be get some Quick Step kit and ride them both!

Is the C-40 a 1993? If so CF came a long way in 15 years. You didn't give the age of the C-40.

But I must separate from one and I don't know wich obe... Got too much bike now... The colnago is much historical but maybe a little old... Maybe the tarmac would last for more years...

Don't know his age as It's first generation It's from mid or late 90's

That article alone would be enough to make me want to keep the Colnago. Btw the article states that 1994 was the intro year.

(Edit) I should maybe add that I don't know squat about cf bikes. The Colnago certainly seems to be "significant" but if your primary goal is riding and you prefer the other, well, that's probably the right answer.

I haven't got any fav... I just want to keep the one that would certainly last for a couple of years

Vintage carbon isn't really a thing... yet. One of the reasons is the constant advancement in carbon technology. Today's low end carbon frame is typically stiffer, lighter and more comfortable than a top of the line model from 5 years ago. I have a 2011 Tarmac SL2 and I love it, but it doesn't compare to a new Tarmac SL4.

When early carbon does start to become collectible, I think only select models will ever be desirable. The Tarmac will be too common and outdated but an S-works for instance, will always carry a certain cachet. I think the same could hold true for your Colnago.

If you have a C-40 from 94 or so it was built strong and was one of the earlier CF bikes made to last. The Tarmac was built specifically for a team and to their specifications. just keep the one that rides the way you like it.

The Tarmac is stronger and stiffer and will last longer than the C40 but the C40 looks better and will hold its value better.

I'd hang onto the C40 but plan on buying a more modern frame to supplement.
