Build in Process... Need suggestions

Made good progress on my latest project this weekend. I'll provide all the details and what I know about this machine when it's finished. For now I need opinions.

I normally don't post incomplete builds but I am at a crossroads with with the pedals, cables and bar tape. Red, yellow, or black? I'm leaning toward all black but would be interested in other opinions. What say you?

As purchased on local CL

How it looks at the moment. Seatpost is temporary, black one on order.

Cables - black

Red rear brake housing, yellow front brake housing, yellow bar tape, black bar end plugs, and black hoods with silver brake levers because you already have the switched up bottle holders. Pedals to match your chain.

This is a tough one, for sure, because there is already so much color already. I would go all black (including saddle and saddle post). I would go black with the bottle holders also. Pedals, however, should be a lighter shade of dark black:-)

I used to like adding color, but not anymore. To me, a bright "somethingorother" detracts from the overall appearance of the bicycle. In this case, the frame is the bright "somethingorother". Adding color to compete, yes compete, with the frame would make the image too busy, in my opinion.

I like what you have so far, and the black seat post will complete the look. Keep the bars black and use black cable housing or, as was suggested earlier, use yellow for the rear and red for front brakes. The colors on the seat work well to break up the monochromatic look. Silver or slate gray on the pedals would do the same for the cranks.

Black cable housing, pedals, hoods.
Yellow bar tape.

+1

I think the bottle cages are fine but would go all black for pedals, tape and housing. And an all black saddle if you wind up switching that one.

White bar tape, housings, and seat. -- looks crisp and sharp. The brake hoods too if you can get 'em

Or go with black across the board

This is the correct opinion. All others are wrong. :)

Also, reverse your bottle holders. Or better yet, replace with black. The frame has enough contrast by itself.

+1. The front half of the chain should be red, the back half yellow. Red front tire, yellow rear tire.

++ go full blackout on all (but the frame, obviously).

Andy_K 07-25-16 11:37 AM

I think red and yellow splash bar tape.

greg3rd48 07-25-16 12:45 PM

I would go with all black. Post the final result because this is going to look great I am sure.

squirtdad 07-25-16 01:30 PM

Black cables, red pedals, red bar tape

Why choose when you can have both red AND yellow? :D

tarwheel 07-25-16 02:31 PM

Black, black, black. You've got enough color going on with the frame and bottle cages already.

Shinkers 07-25-16 02:33 PM

Curious, what bars are those?

Nice bars, I have them on the hammer bike

Gary Fountain 07-26-16 03:27 AM

I think the black components on your bike really pop. I'd go all black with the rest. I'm also with the black seatpost crowd too.

HamboneSlim 07-26-16 03:50 AM

Definitely a black seatpost. The seat is great - picks up all the colors and helps tie it all together. The seat rails also pick up on the silver on the rims.
Switch the cages around, or go black, either works equally well. Colored cages with black bottles would be my preference.
Black cables and pedals. The black on this bike is what is what is making the color really work.
Either red or black bar tape works, with red looking a little more sporty, black a little more badass. I'd prefer black.
