ID this Bianchi?
 

Looking at picking up this Bianchi frameset for my mom. Any idea what it is? Looks mid '80s, and I'm guessing Japanese made, but I make out the remains of a Columbus sticker and Campy parts (maybe 980?), so maybe Italian.

I'm pretty clueless on big Celeste, so any ideas?

Bianchi Special by Columbus tubing decal should place it 1985 and make it an Italian manufactured model. The serial number should confirm this. It appears to be a frankenbike based on the components. The derailleurs suggest a Trofeo, while the crankset and brakes suggest a Nuovo Alloro. Regardless, both used the same frame and the variance could also be due to it being a foreign market model.

Edit: The derailleurs appear to be Campagnolo Triomphe.

Depending on what the price is obviously, that's a nice ride. I've had a lot of great experiences with the italian-made 80's Bianchis. The Columbus "Special" tubing in any number of the variants (Special, Formula, Formula 2, etc.) is all fairly mid-level tubing for those who are obsessed in my understanding. But as far as ride quality, they're wonderful. I sold a similar frame and that was stocked with Campagnolo Triomphe components (which is looks like this may have) and regret it to this day. The simplicity of the build and the light smoothness of the ride was awesome.

I had asked about a model around here previously (for the bike I had which shares many of the frame details as yours) and the few replies also suggested the "Nuovo Alloro". For reference, here what what I....used to own :'( haha - at least it went to a good home.

The chainset on the subject machine appears to be OFMEGA.

Does anyone recognise the pedals fitted?

Ofmega, the old Ambrosio and Magistroni, is correct. My Bianchi (see signature) came with Ofmega hubs and cranks, Campag. pedals and derailleurs, and Modolo brakes.

These are great bikes -- I have been delighted with mine.

Had not previously encountered an indication of a relation between Ambrosio S.p.A. and Officine Mecchaniche Giostra. Do you have an additional information on this?
