Super sport top tube lenght?

my brother had an early 70s schwinn super sport in the biggest size. (26in?) it was recently stolen and he replaced it with a big miyata 110 but he says it feels small. wondering what the top tupe length was on the big super sports. if anyone owns one and could measure, or knows off the top of their head, I'd appreciate it.

The top tube was 1" in diameter and 22.5" long on the 22" and 24" frames and 1-1/8" diameter and 24.5" long on the 26" frame.

thx

Wow, that's almost 2 inches longer than the top tube on his 25 in miyata.

I knew that ss felt like a cruising beast when I rode it. Wonder how long its stem was.

Thanks for the helpful answer

The GB-made "S" stem used on the 24" and 26" frames had a reach of 3.5" (90mm). The small 22" frame came with a shorter version with only 2.75" (70mm) reach.

Back in the day, it was required to memorize all significant and insignificant measurements for the previous ten years. Since bicycle dimensions changed very rarely, this is actually quite easy.

(Just kidding. But I spent my lunch breaks at the old shop studying catalogs and the Schwinn repair manuals.)

The Japanese bikes of the early '70's tended to use only one or two different sets of lugs. Because the relative angles of the tubes didn't vary much, top tubes of large frames tended to be quite short.
