Inaugural Tucson Vintage Show & Ride
If you're in the area, it looks like there's stuff to do the weekend of November 12. Bike show, rides on Saturday and Sunday. No idea how well-attended it will or will not be, but I may well register and do the Saturday ride.
Finally my Paramount can hang out with a few bikes its own age. hahahaha |
Wow, looks like a cool event!
|
I will probably be sttending. Good time to get away from the pacific moist west..

Thanks @J.Oxley It's a good possibility that I'm in. Should be a nice showing based on how many vintage collector's, builders and the fact the do the semi annual swap.
Says 87' or earlier and have to sub photos of drive and non drive side and be approved for the show. Pretty cool looking. Us C&Vers should have a meetup. Rob |

What!?!?! I just looked at the rules -- 'bikes must have downtube shifters'??? What's wrong with '70s SunTour barcons??? Aaaauuuggghhh! Looks like all four of my eligible road bikes would be excluded because they ALL have SunTour barcons!
|
@Cougrrcj ... Wouldn't be at all surprised if barcons are accepted -- a ban on those would just be silly. They probably said "downtube shifters" to keep brifters out of the equation and bar-end shifters didn't occur to them. Of course this is all speculation. Maybe contact them and report back?

Whew! My '86 Miyata 710 can attend! Now I just have to get out to PHX and overhaul the bike, put on the new barcons/bar tape/cables/hoods/pads/tires/pedals... Then ride from Gold Canyon to Oro Valley...

Geez. Wish they could do this the same weekend as El Tour de Tucson- that's the 19th.
Have plans to attend that and ride a vintage mount. Can't come a week earlier due to family commits. |

I see that someone on the event site must have heard my scream - Barcons are now accepted!

Why a disaster? IAB and Robbie organized a vintage class at the recent Dairyland Dare and it worked out just fine. But, anyway.
If there's some vintage-y folks riding in El Tour, I'll bring the Cinelli, the Sachs, the Pelizzoli, or something similar and interesting and ride the 100 mile route. If not so many, then likely my usual heavily modified '88 Cannondale ST travel bike. Goes everywhere, can tackle anything that gets thrown at it. |

Do you come in for the winter? We can plan a wrenching party.
@jiangshi When do you get back into town? |
@jiangshi I'll take pics and see ya sometime in Nov or Dec.
I was considering the Tour De Scottdale on my vintage in Oct, but will just hold out for this in November. |
@rccardr -- I was just thinking that with all the hullabaloo surrounding El Tour anything scheduled that same weekend would get lost in the mix and have minimal attendance. Of course, last time I rode El Tour I felt like my '84 was about the oldest bike in the field, so maybe there's minimal overlap in terms of likely attendees. I've been wrong before.
Once. :roflmao2: |
i may be able to do that. Hopefully, it doesn't conflict with the bike swap, as i was hoping to participate in that event.

My old lady and I just registered for this event last night. Hoping for a good turnout and looking forward to meeting some of you there!

Bumping this thread again for a quick request. I'm starting to look at some Airbnb's and was wondering if any Tucson natives had any recommendations of areas to consider? Would love something within walking distance of restaurants, coffee shops, pubs, etc.
All suggestions are greatly appreciated! |
I'm going to be in AZ for this weekend - and hope I can make one of the rides. Bike will NOT be overhauled/modified in time for the event, so I don't know if I should ride it as-is or wait til next year...

I still need to sign up, will do so this coming week and set up plans. Looking forward to a weekend getaway that doesn't involve work and meeting some C&V.
|
Thanks for the suggestion @iab, that looks like a very nice place and definitely something I'd consider if I'm able to round up a few more people to come. Haven't had any luck on that front yet outside of my significant other :)
|
Bumping this thread although my participation is now looking pretty unlikely. Registration deadline 6 November. Weather is finally getting rideworthy around here, with highs in the 80s instead of 90s. :)
