Chain Recommendation

Folks

Just starting to build up a new frame I have acquired so anyone suggest a nice chain to go with it, not too concerned on the looks.

Bike will be a 6 speed on a new Sunrace Freewheel, Have used cheap shimano chains in the past and they have not lasted well.

Thanks

Dave

I use the SRAM chain on all my 6-8 speed bikes. Works great with my 6 speed Sunrace freewheel. Crisp shifting and quiet.

I have been very satisfied with KMC x8 on all my 6 speed builds. Their missing link master link design is so easy to work with. x8.93 is silver/black while x8.99 is all silver.

KMC X8.93 on most everything with gears in the 5-8 speed range.

I would go with the Sram, I used to use KMC chains on most of my builds but since they switched production to China recently the fit and finish on there chains is not as nice as it was on the ones from Tawian, so I would pay the sligtly higher price for the Sram which now seems to have better quality.

SRAM PC-58, or whatever they call the current version of their "5 to 8 speed" chain.

A cheap KMC Z50 works great on my 6-speed Sunrace freewheel. A Z51 should work fine as well, plus it'll have a convenient "Missing Link" connector.

I want to say the PC-48 became the PC-850 and the PC-58 became the PC-870.

I shell out a couple of bucks more for the 870 because it looks better than the 850.

Another vote for the 830, 850, 870, series SRAM chains. Using the 850 on my 5 cog Medici, works beautifully.
