Any replacements for br-7400 frame protector?

Also maybe the cap for the hex hole in the lock nut?

Slash5 08-31-16 06:33 PM

I'd talk to your local plastic supply shop and buy some rubber rod that could be shaped in a drill with a file.

RobbieTunes 09-01-16 05:35 AM

I have no clue what either of those posts are about.

Dura-Ace 7400 brakes came with a rubber bumper on the brake arm to prevent the arm from denting the frame DT if slammed into it, they also had a plug (non functional, appearance only) that fits the 5mm hex head lock nut on the front of the pivot bolt.

gaucho777 09-01-16 09:15 AM

Non-functional? It's so much more aero with the front plug! ;) I've got a few pairs of these brake, and all my rubber plugs & bumpers are long gone, too.

Well, if he'd have said "O-rings on the barrel adjuster," I'd have gotten it. Color me uninformed, eh?

I actually replaced mine with O-rings from a Lowe's Home Improvement store. I bought a multipack, and back then I used some on Campy and also on some KCNC calipers.

As far as the "nose plug" things, you can get plastic ones in Lowe's, if you rummage through the drawers. Not sure they're small enough for the #5 hex hole. I have a few in my parts box and I'm not sure where they're from. Weren't there some on the back of Campy brake levers, too?

fietsbob 09-01-16 10:59 AM

Not applicable (because its not that brake ) but there is a little rubber piece on the back of the

Front caliper Of my Antique Campag single pivot brakes , in addition to the O ring around the adjuster ..

No I cannot find what you want, online, for you. you have to do that.

have a picture of the place you are lacking what you are missing?

Sugaru and make something ?

Does the Dura Ace caliper arm have a small bore on the back side of the arm like Campy does?
To accept the little rubber bumper?
If so, what is the diameter of the hole?
I've got all sorts of raw materials around here, including rubber, nylon, Teflon sheet, unobtanium, etc., etc

Yes Rootboy, same as on my Monoplanar Campy and Superbe Pro. THe frame protector hole is 2mm and the cap is 5mm.
For you young fellas, not familiar with these brakes see items 17 the frame protector and item 11 includes the cap.

O-rings are not an issue.

As embarrassing as it is, it has clear RTV in it doing a half a$$ job, just now. The frame protector that is, sadly the lock nut cap is just missing.

rootboy 09-02-16 09:49 AM

Not familiar with Monoplaner Campy, but on a pair of Super Record era brakes I have, the front was missing its frame bumper, I just punched a piece of hard black rubber sheet I have here and glued it in. Might have doubled it, can't remember,as my rubber sheet is only 1/8 thick.
But it seemed to work OK, and looks very similar to stock. On my brakes however, it was/is just a cylinder, stuck into the hole

jiangshi 09-02-16 10:39 AM

I may have a nut cap around. I know I had some at one point. I wonder if the rubber stop on a modern Campagnolo Ergo blade would fit the frame protector? May be easier to find.

Look for rubber plugs or stoppers.

Thanks, much appreciated, ordered one size smaller, #0000000, tapers from 1.5 to 5mm and the hole is 2.0.

Had this drop off while cleaning my bike. Was amazed I found it in the grass. Have to get a drop of glue and re-install.
Seems to be fairly hard plastic. I think one could be made from the plastic sprue from a plastic model.

You got it, when I am happy with my homemade protector I am using black weatherstrip adhesive to stick all of them in on my DA , Superbe Pro and Monoplanar.

Go to an auto parts store and look at their O rings, usually a fuel system part. You may need to take a caliper with you and then buy a half dozen.

TX, what searching for here are the buttons placed on the brake arm to prevent bumping into the frame so I am not clear as to your suggestion of o-rings on the brake other than for the cable adjusting bolt unit? Sorry for any confusion?

I know what you're looking for, but it was my poor writing that didn't convey what I was thinking, sorry. The O-ring(s) would slip over the cable's adjusting bolt and serve as a bump stop, of sorts. Another option is maybe to paint the adjusting bolt with clear Plasti Dip, which is normally used to insulate hand tools.

Just checked my 7403 brakes. Both front and rear have the hole on the arm that the adjuster sit in, number 11 is missing.

Do you think an O ring of the right diameter cut to fit the hole and protrude would work? A straight piece of rubber would be better. Just use CA glue.

try this new moldable silicone putty/dough (I have not yet used it but will someday), comes in black plus many colors:

Yeah, I plan to try it for the rubber cones that are missing on the bolts of some Suntour/DC RGC brakes.

In regards to the tiny bumper that protects the down tube - I so wish all brakes had them! Cutting a section of the right o-ring is a good idea. I might try on some Chorus monplanars. Though that bumper is white, so Sugru might be good there too. Amazon has a muli-color kit.
