Good replacement hoods for Campy levers?
2 Attachment(s)
I ripped one hood on my 1989 Bianchi which has Athena group set. Haste makes waste. I am not interested in paying crazy money for NOS replacement hood/hoods. Plus I want to go with black or brown as replacement. What brand can I use that will work with the Athena levers from this era?
thanks. |
What's your definition of crazy money? Less than $50 for a set of long out of production hoods doesn't strike me as out of the question.

I'd snag as many pairs of these as you can find at a reasonable cost.

The 'what do you consider crazy money' post is very important. Cyclists, in my opinion, are extremely frugal and often times exceptionally cheap.
'Crazy money' can be $10 for one person and $50 for another. Feel fortunate, 5 years ago you couldn't find anything but truly NOS 20yo dried up rock hard RE500's for less than $75. Luckily, Campy seems to be producing them again. As mentioned in the other post, but them while you can, no guarantees on how long they'll be available. (I have 6 pairs) |
It's truly amazing how many people show up asking for equipment replacement advice on 25-year-old stuff, provide vague information, and then get their noses out of joint.

Use duct tape...at least you'll have a reason to complain

Finding the right search term can be a bit of a pain, so there is no problem with asking questions.
Plus, there is always the question of what will work good enough. Somebody has to have experimented with non-OEM hoods. I think someone sold me Dia Compe brake hoods for my old Universal brake levers quite some time ago. It looks like now there are some really nice reproduction hoods available, which would be good if the brake levers hadn't worn out. Plus, in some cases, new complete levers can be less expensive than simple hoods. |

Thank you to crank_addict, CliffordK and others for your responses. As one responder mentioned, finding the right search term was probably my issue here. I was searching 'da bay and coming up with $35 for a single hood and $69-79 for a pair; I would say that's crazy money. I bought the option that CliffordK provided.

Those AME hoods are good but I'm not sure they'll work on the C Record era levers. I have some on Super Record levers.
Drop me a line if you're interested in some more white-ish ones. I've a bag of em in various shades and conditions |

Since we are somewhat on the subject, anyone know of a place to find reasonably priced Gran sport or record hoods?

Are they interchangeable? |

I'm seeing lots of non-aero hoods on E-Bay. A few different colors, styles, and perhaps Campy, off-brand, NOS, and Repro.
