Anyone lose a Raleigh RacingUSA in the PacNW?

I recovered a Raleigh RacingUSA frame from a homeless encampment here in Seattle. Guy literally told me that he bought it with $25 worth of meth "from a guy in Federal Way." I don't believe that, but the underground bike trade ranges far, fast and wide, so who knows.

I would like to get this back to its rightful owner. Let me know if you lost one and the color, parts spec, serial and/or size and let's arrange a meetup.

Homeless camp? Meth? Surely you don't believe this fella was actually riding this thing, do you? Theft and/or fence is a 90% probability.

If you want to go all vigilante to get your own stuff back, I can support that. Walk around acting like self appointed "bike recovery agents", and I'm going to quickly develop a dim view of you.

Well, the OP did say recovered, so one can assume s/he is in some sort of law enforcement, and is trying to find it's rightful owner.

The amount of assumption in this thread is cringe-worthy. Maybe Tricky takes his time to help homeless people in a volunteer organization and noticed a nice bicycle frame, then gave the current steward money for it, then took the time to post about it here based on the possibility that it is stolen. Assumption? Yes. But at least we don't have to be so negative.

Lead off with the facts, and the assumption factor drops like a rock.

Hope you find the owner. A wide range of bikes carry RacingUSA logos, from some third rate types up to the SBDUs.

I am assuming tricky went to score meth, got very high, accidentally left on the Raleigh, and doesn't remember where this homeless camp was in order to return it.

Do we have a right to know why Tricky was in a homeless camp? That's beside the point. He has a RaleighUSA that he believes might stolen and explained the factors that led him to that conclusion. I don't see any reason to throw out hate because the guy is trying to be helpful...

Thanks again for posting, Tricky. If it is stolen, I hope you find the owner!

I was in Seattle a few weeks ago and there are homeless camps everywhere. I couldn't believe it. Literally hundreds of tents set up in underpasses along the freeway. My driver told me it's because rent in the city has gotten too high for anyone to afford.

Sounds like Seattle is getting like SD. I think the homeless from here add to CA in the summer, and probably from NV as well. It's an epidemic in SD.

Anyway, if it's a 753. I think lost one. I'll be up in Dec and can pick up.

I'll just walk up to you, take your bike because I assume it's stolen (and I don't like the back story on how you acquired it) then look for it's "rightful" owner.

What does he do with it when no one comes forward to claim it? Take it back to the "methhead"?

OP couldn't have ridden off on it, unless he did a quick parts scrounge and built it up. He said it is a frame in the opening of the thread.

Call your local PD with the serial number.

And look up on:
https://bikeindex.org/stolen

Searching the registry is tricky, but you can search by serial number as well as brand+model.

It has nothing to do with rents... it's because Seattle allows people to camp anywhere they wish, decent weather, lousy mental health care system, etc. Seattle continually increases its spending on homeless services and continues to get more and more homeless; anytime you subsidize behavior you can count on getting more of it. They are now talking about "safe houses" for junkies to shoot up in.

Don't get your knickers in a twist without the whole story.
They have been clearing some of the homeless encampments and more heavily monitoring others. Tons of stuff gets left as the homeless are removed, relocated and asked to be generally law abiding - or move on.

Same thing happening in SF, Portland...Guy was on OPB (Oregon Public Broadcasting) said he moved to Portland because the city has good services for the homeless...Person's down and out due to some bad luck, that's one thing...sold bikes in Berkeley in the early 80's, People's Park had a bunch of regulars. One of 'em came into buy a bike after cashing his gov't check...
