Needle in a haystack.

Several weeks ago I posted pics of some old balloon tire bikes I picked up. The pick of the litter being this Columbia built Goodyear HiWay Patrol.

I hooked an acquaintance up with the seller and he ended up buying everything that was left, probably close to 175 bicycles and a couple pickup loads of parts. A few days later he and the seller contacted me to tell me they had found what they believed was the chain guard to my bike. It was in a box in an entirely different location several miles from the bike, the odds against finding it had been pretty high but it was definitely the one from my bike.

That left only the top cover to the headlight missing and I had even less hope of finding it. I have been looking for a replacement with little success then a few days ago my acquaintance sent me a Facebook message with this picture.......

I picked it up this morning, my acquaintance (quickly becoming a good friend) was handsomely rewarded with his favorite adult beverage and the cover will be reunited with the bike in a few minutes. :D

That's fantastic! Nice when things align and stuff comes back together like it should....

Awesome!

I like a good story and even better when it has the happy ending. How restorative are you going to go on this Colombian?

I'm going to give it a full mechanical rebuild, a Naval Jelly & WD-40 bath, clear coat it, make the horn and headlight functional, put tubes and tires on it and ride it. Oh, and I'll replace the orange mud flap with a white one.

How cool is that. So much fun collecting!
