Help with Nuovo Record BB variants?

I have a couple of Nuovo Record bottom brackets here. One has the earlier flat faced fixed cup and the other the later stepped face. Can anyone tell me about when Campagnolo switched from the flat to the stepped cup?

Thanks,

I had always thought it was when they made the CPSC changes (~'78 or so), but apparently it was earlier than that, maybe '76? Someone should be along to correct me however :)

Both examples are NR since both exhibit the helical splines. Earlier smooth face cups were R and have different spacing.

Also recall change came prior to CPSC implementation. Thinking ~1974. Will be interested to read what the Tulliana experts have to report. ;)

From Velobase: They don't specify a year.

Campagnolo 1046/a, Nuovo Record (Strada)

Used by both the Nuovo and Super Record groups. Several variations through it's production life span. All NR/SR cups, are thick walled and rifled. Those BBs for use with a triple or Pista used the thin walled Record cup. Early NR/SR have a flat face on the fixed cup. Later versions do not. True SR BBs have aluminum cups and a titanium spindle. Spindles marked for [BB width] - [Application] - [ Chain line spacing]. Application codes: SS = Road. P = Track. Swiss threaded fixed cup was a special order part only.
