Black 'banding' on tubes @ socks juncture

I would like a source or ideas for the best material for 'banding' the six positions that previously had a black glossy, tape-like material.
Not a decal, from the residue of the original. more thickness to cover a bit of roughness (not much) in the paint-to-chrome transition.
Thanks.
Oh - and a wider version for a downtube wrap.

I never noticed black being usd for this, only the rainbow wrapping. Not saying it didn't happen, just not aware of it.

Would an old shop still have something like what you are looking for or model's decal kits?

Will check. Thanks. Does it come in varying widths? Probably YES.

Anyone think it's worth painting? Simple enough?

+1 for the pin stripe tape and, yes the auto pin stripe tape comes in a few widths. Check in at any auto parts place for the pin striping.

Elegante. Mine are much wider. I think the pin stripe tape is closer to original. The tube decals are intact and remarkably thin.

Yup and works just fine and comes in a variety of widths and even a variety of number of lines...

I am trying to find an old thread about using detailing paint pens for these lines, as well as outlining lugs, that was on this forum a few years back. Not sure if they would give you the crisp look that Randy's and WW's termination lines have in their pics.

Would you be best served by masking off where the detail line goes at the chrome/paint border? I haven't had any experience with these paint pens, I am not sure that paint would give the thickness that I would be after. For outlining lugs, I can't think of an easier way, except to pay for a pen stripe artist to do the work, and I don't have near the coins to even consider this.

Without an extreme hijacking Wildwood's thread, what say the Learned Council of Classic and Vintage Sages?

Good thought, that must be why they pay you the big bucks. Let me know when they start issuing payments.....

Actually, its the best thing to do, as usual I am indebted to another of the C&V regulars. Much appreciated Stuart.

Why in the Sam Hill would you want to do that? Being a semi retired, 1/3 salary engineer, with an incurable disease ain't a great career choice. But I must admit, it pays the rent and the light bill.

You know, the glossy, tape-like material.
I like to use the double-band, one wider than the other.

I've also been known to mask with the pinstripe tape and paint the band with a paint pen (Bill).
The paint thickness is about right, or you can spray it if you decide to mask A LOT.

For the lug lining, a paint pen is the bomb, just be sure to get the width you want at a larger hobby store. Do it while the pen is fairly new, with an even "filling" of the foam tip applicator, unlike the glob and run that tends to end up with an older pen. As with any paint process, two thin coats are better than one. Just watch your angle as the pen lines the lugs, as you generally want the "lip" to be painted and by default, about the same "width" on the tube.

Automotive pinstripe tape comes in various colors, widths, and number/spacing of multi lines of the same color, along with multicolor variations.. Back 40 years ago, I used both black and white single-line pinstripe tape to make my own double-stripe delineation of the chrome socks on my S-10S.
