Help needed
I recently helped clear a barn , underneath a pile of rubbish in the corner , i found a moulton cycle looking very beaten up . I have looked over the frame , but the only number i have found is 380087 which i am assuming is the serial number . It is a 4 speed and looks fairly complete , i would like to restore it , but i dont know how old , which model or what was the original colour ,
Can anybody help ? After having another look round the frame , i have found the following information - on 1 side of the frame is K64 and on the other side is 380087 . On the sturmey archer 4 speed hub , i found 64 12 and 23085 , i tried uploading pictures but have so far failed |
We cannot help sight unseen. Review numerous other posts that have bike photos then post your photos showing the bike and several key details. Dusty and dirty does not matter but good lighting and particular detail does. Learn from others who have asked the same question on this forum. Then you'll get lots of help.

There are a few ways to figure out How Old A Bike Is. If yours has a SA hub, ook at the rear hub for two digits. They indicate year of manufacture and month. The one pictured below is of 1980 vintage made in the month of August...

It's my understanding that the Moultons had an open format, two numeral year code stamped on the seat tube, on the opposite side from the serial number. Sometimes, there is a single character, alpha prefix designating the factory. Even, if you find the year stamp on the frame, it is still worthwhile corroborating against the year code of the hub, per Randy. Once we have the year and pictures, it should be relatively easy to determine the model.

Nice find. We certainly would like to see some pictures.

I picked up this Moulton at the Dump, many years ago. Sadly, I did not document my finds as well in those days. I cant recall any numbers, stamped anywhere, but that really means nothing...
http://www.mytenspeeds.com/My_TenSpe...FullRtSide.jpg I swapped the Moulton for a Brooks Pro, the other fellow paying shipping for the bike and the saddle... http://www.mytenspeeds.com/My_TenSpe...SaddleSide.jpg |
