Easy. Blue mink and silver, with gold lettering on the jersies

Haha! That's close but not a Tommy Trojan! Maybe I should get one custom made. I recall someone was doing that.

Once the sun shines in pdx, I'll take some decent pics and post it on your thread. I'm surprised there aren't more folks sporting their alma mater's colors. OBTW, USC is Cardinal and Gold!

Go dawgs! Lascauxcaveman, given the alma mater, V&C fandom, and proximity, we need to get in a ride where I buy the post ride beverages. Maybe that will serve as a detente over the peach episode.

OH, yeah. You're the wiseguy that threw a rotten peach at me! Yeah, a pint of PNW IPA might make up for that. PM coming

Really nice looking bike, not half bad for a Navy Puke/Air Scout retread. But its much better than half good.

Thanks Aaron! They're awesome brakes. Much stronger than road calipers- I'd say they feel as strong as V-brakes.

Back at ya, Semper Fi. Enjoy the holidays.

That is really some kind of beautiful bike you built, your choices of components really sets this one apart from others. Love the look of the crankset, hubs and those Paul brakes.

Bill

Hey... So did either of you two get these gorgeous bikes out on the road for some action photos?

Knucks, I'm particularly interested in yours because it is remarkably similar to the Audax E-E I'm currently building: brooks, compass tires, grey anodised rims, metal guards... even the Mafac Racers which are still sitting on my unfinished project! What stem did you use on yours (is that a grand bois)? Any new photos to allow me stare at it some more?

Nice job. Looks fantastic. Those herse cranks really elevate it to a different class of bike. Looks like you've somehow managed to squeeze in some properly big tires. Can I ask: are they 30c GBs... or do the wider rims just make them look that big? And how are you finding clearance with them and the guards (i.e. will you be sticking with that set-up)?

(Funny enough... I got my hands on a black Paul Racer brake too. But I only have one and I'm not sure whether it will fit with the rest of my build.)

They are indeed the GB Cypress. They measure 32mm on the TB14 rims.

Clearance seems fine but it's very close - interestingly enough the fenders I have (honjo 45mm) are bigger than what Grand Bois suggests to run with these tires, but I wonder if that's on the basis that the Cypress measure 30mm on some skinnier rims..

I just rode the bike to work and all seemed fine, but the rear skewer was a bit loose so the wheel shifted which caused rubbing. I also had removed the adjusters in the dropouts because I needed to get the wheel as far as it would go for the fender clearance at the chainstay.

Oh dear. That's annoying. It does sound like you're pushing the frame to it's furthest limits as a rando bike - which is why I was so interested (coz I'd like to do the same). But, as I've learned from previous builds, small mm differences start to count for a whole lot more when you're doing that.

For instance: those GB Cypres are just about exactly 30mm wide on my open pros - which would probably give you that extra bit of wiggle room you need. Similarly, the VO 45mm guards offer a lot more room underneath than the, admittedly much nicer, honjos that you have. If you can swallow the cost of buying another pair of tires... the GB cerfs might give you a bit more peace of mind (and they might measure out to 28 or so on tb14s?)

The GB Cypres on my TB14 measured 33mm wide after a few hundred miles; GB Cerf were 29mm wide after they finished stretching.
