Ciocc need info from experts

Hello,
Could not find my answers so hoping some on the forum can assist...I have been looking at some Ciocc bikes and have a few questions.
It seems as though there are a lot of variations regarding groups on these. I am looking for frames in the top two tiers and see triomphe as well as record and chorus etc.
So my question is are there any particular groups that would have been specified on the SL special or the Sl Competizione?
Was Ciocc triomphe a model?
Is the only difference between the Special and the Comp really just the chrome...values the same?
Any help greatly appreciated. Thanks, Ben

I believe these were mainly sold as frame only so you would either use what you had or buy a 'kit' from some supplier with everything you needed to build it. If you were on a budget you might buy the SL Special and build it with Campagnolo Triomphe to save money.

The page you attached is that "European" catalog from Bulgier's site, and not clear who was selling these in the US before Ten Speed Drive became the big US importer, soon after. But when TSD was naming them they tended to be model-linked to the gruppo that was installed...sometimes.
Judging by the description between these 2 frames the only difference from "Special SL" and "Competizione SL" is the amount of chrome: more plating on the "Special".

I bought a new Ciocc in 1985 that came with Triomphe, but the model was Mod San Cristobal. It was entry level, Aelle tubing, and no chrome.

I'm no expert,

But I rather like my Triomphe equipped Ciocc

Prior consulting here , we determined it was likely an SL Speciale, -- the tubing decal was vague --- stating just Columbus competizione, or something like that --- but it has a 27.2 seat tube, whereas one of the Aelle frames would likely be 26.8

But, it has a Triomphe group as well, - not normally what you would see on an up-tier frameset

All I know is it rides great, -- the handlebars are too narrow for me -- I purchased it from a smaller framed guy --- I just bought it because it looked cool , it was a nice piece of garage art for a couple of years

-- I continued to ride my late models until one day I decided to take it for a spin - man, what a treat - it had been so long since I had ridden such a simple bicycle -- it was joy, - I felt like Dennis Christopher in BReaking Away --- so while I still ride modern stuff, I have been running down the C&V rabbit hole ever since
