A.b.c.e.

Has anyone ever heard of this?
Are there other, similar events in U.S. cities?

The All British Cycling Event and Gentleman's Tour

Sounds like a tweed ride, only moreso. Most of those suggest, but do not require; a.b.c.e. seems a little more hardcore.

The All British Cycling Event and Gentleman's Tour

Sounds "Proper". :thumb:
I have an Anglophile friend in the area who must be attending.

Yes, I attended a couple of the ABCE gatherings. They attract much the same crowd as the Lake Pepin 3-Speed Tour, but not limited to 3-speed bikes. Anything British will do. There are often some interesting bikes there, rides around the Twin Cities area, and a swap meet where you can pick up vintage stuff. I know I have some pictures around here someplace, but I'll be darned if I can find them.

I was at one of these quite a few years ago here in the Twin Cities.

Superb event.

Very nice British bike fans in attendance.

My Bob Jackson won an award for something or other.

Yes, slo, sounds like the London Tweed Run, but in miniature.

John, that's great that you did this ride/event. I'm glad that 3-speed is not a requirement, because right now, my Grubb is a 4-speed. I am not sure why many of these events have a central theme of alcohol consumption, but I suppose that is enticing to some. I'd like to find a 3-day event with 30-60M rides each day and lots of food afterward and camping, like a C&V Woodstock. Woodrupstock!

Sounds like fun! Too far away for me, or I'd roll out the Mercian, which somehow ended up very tweed.

3speedslow 12-07-16 07:26 PM

Your Mercian is quite smashing!

Yeah, me too, Sala. That's why I was wondering if there are any others.

I've done five Lake Pepin 3speed tours. It is a 2 day event with 40-45 miles a day with options for more miles. Food is a big part of the event & you can use your 4 speed. There is camping if you chose & the nice thing is that you don't have to carry your camping gear. A shuttle vehicle will carry it. It's a great event!

Wow! I'll check it out, Mead! Thanks! (Are you certain that other riders will refrain from sneering and snickering at my "fancy/schmancy" 4-speed freewheel?)

When I've done Lake Pepin, I arrive the night before the ride and set up camp in Wabasha, get up the next morning and drive to the start in Red Wing, ride back to Wabasha with the group and spend the night in camp (already set up! :thumb:), ride with the group the next day back to Red Wing, load the bike on the car, drive back to Wabasha, break camp and head home.

Got the bike.

Thanks 3speedslow! :D

1989Pre: I like that it has an optional camping component. I do have some relatives in Minn, but probably not worth the plane ride - or cross country road trip. Sounds slightly more fun to me than L'Eroica. L-Eroica is much more conveniently located for me, but for me it's kind of been there done that (BITD).

Yeah, camping is the way to go. The mid-west needs a L'Eroica and so does the east coast. I really think there are enough of us to make these events pay.
