Help ID Frame
 

The crank looks to be Shimano Tri Color. Is the frame a Schwinn? Any idea of the quality of the frame from the low quality photos?

Is there a serial number on the frame? and where is it located?

I don't recognize the brand, but early eighties mid-level Japanese would be my guess, based on the cable guides, the 600 EX crank, and the flat top seat lug. Is there a serial number on the bottom of the BB shell?

I don't think "Schwinn" but agree most likely a mid-to-higher JP frame, so if it was made for a "house brand" it could be anything starting with "S". If not then go thru all the JP "S-brands":

Based on the seat stay panto and the color scheme, this is likely an early 80s (81-83?) Panasonic DX-4000. There's another one in this post.

Great sleuthing again MauriceMoss, and BTW there's a Schwinn connection, too since Panasonic built some of the Japanese Schwinns under contract. But those would not have been labelled as Panasonics!
Looks to be Tange Champion "Motocross" tubing (whaaaa?) and came in at 24lbs. fully dressed in 1982 or 83:

HAH, the censors won't allow the proper JAPANESE name for Panasonic/National to be written since it contains a combination of letters than can only mean ONE THING to tiny dirty-minded computers...AFAIK this is the family name of the company's founder and actually means "beneath the pine tree"...obviously pornographic!
