Cinelli Alter Stem
Im building a 1996 italian build. Can anyone tell me what years these Cinelli stems came onto the market?
Also I've read a few reports of them working loose. Has anyone managed to get over this issue? |
Odd,
I'm seeing lots of information about the stems online, but no dates. About the earliest reference I'm seeing is a 2002 RBR review. But that is about the beginning of the website, so it puts it before that date. Cinelli Alter Stems Reviews - RoadbikeReview.com Maybe Cinelli would provide information to update the VeloBase pages. |
I have an Alter, not sure what year it is, likely 93-94. It is silver alum. w/ blue painted logo. Hardly used when I bought it. I mounted it, used the bike for some photos, took it off. The Alter is like a work of avante garde art. It can stand alone with no other purpose in life.
Is someone looking for an Alter? Cheers, Bill in Roswell, GA |
I can't give you a definitive answer but I bought one in the 90's. I also got a 'pin-up girl' to go with the stem. I didn't use it for long as I felt it looked too heavy for the bike I put it on.

Cliff,
Velobase probably won't cover that model, its outside of their limit for its year of manufacture. I could well be mistaken, but they are fairly strict on the cut off. I'd think an email to Cinelli might get you better response. Bill |

The girl or the stem?

FWIW, none of my 1996 retail catalogues show the Alter. The hot Cinelli stem in 1996 appears to have been the Grammo.
