Contest: Vintage bike + vintage car

Oldest combo wins. Eg: 40 year-old bike + 50 year old car = 90 points.

Rules:

(1) Must be your own bike
(B) Car must be OLDER than bike
(3.1) Your own car is allowed, but anyone's cars/trucks are fair game. NO motorcycles.
(IV) Because I said so, that's why.
(5-ish) Both must be parked out in the open air; street, parking lot, cattle pasture, etc.
(#duh) Car and bike must be in same photo, obviously.
(Z'''最初) Both bike and car must be in (apparently) operable condition

Two categories:
Category 1 is oldest overall combo (1 bike + 1 car)
Category 2 is highest cumulative score of all your legit entries (and no using same bike or same car in more than one picture).

If you're not sure on the age of the car/truck, take your best guess, use the googles to check, and then correct the info if someone more knowledgable calls you out on it. Ditto on age of bike.

Contest goes until end of April 2017.

My first entry (which should be pretty easy to beat): 1989 Trek + 1955 Ford = 28 years + 62 years = 90 points

Very specific rule change requests there. Planning to ask for credit for same color sidewalls, too?

Absolutely. Clearly, the truck was manufactured in April of 1970 and the bike wasn't brazed up until July. It's so obvious.
But your math skills suck. That combo scores 94 points, according to my abacus.

Please re-read rule (3.1) It has been rephrased for clarity.

I know, this is not what you meant, but--- it is technically a "car."

My 1971 Schwinn Paramount P13 and an early 1900s Central Vermont CV4030 Caboose.

Bike 46 + 1919 Caboose 98 = 144 points. If you eliminate me on a technicality, I understand.

1937 Chrysler and 1980 Schwinn Traveler (117 years)

However, to be fair, the Schwinn is my bike; but the last time I rode it was when I was 16; it's now my daughters bike (WAY too small for me today).

So I should really make it the bike my 1995 Mondonico:

IMG_20150429_113441_920.jpg

So, 102 years

I'll repost the combo photo in the spring, neither bike or car go out in MN winters.

Disallowed - zero points.

But you have a facile and imaginative mind, as well as a warm and caring soul. Plus you can use the bike again, if you find an old automobile to park it next to.

Until then, zero points. Rule (#duh) is strictly enforced, here, my good man! But I like where you're heading with that '37 Chrysler. Be pretty neat if someone manages to catch a 1896 Benzwagen parked at the local WalMart whilst tooling about on his 1897 penny-farthing. Boom! 241 points, suckah!

If they park their cars outside, that would be an excellent strategy! Otherwise, see rule (5-ish).

Not my car, so not sure on year. Let's say '86, same as the bike: 31+31=62. Surely not a contest winner, but too fitting not to include in this thread.

Here's my 1963 Austin Healey 3000 and my 1974 Raleigh Professional. The Healey was silver blue, the Pro is silver and blue.

The 3000 has gone to a new owner, Raleigh is still in the garage!

Cool bike and fun car, but for the love of God, people, don't lean your bike against cars that aren't yours!

I got rid of my classic truck right as I was getting into classic bikes so I don't have a submission to this thread yet, but the only negative turn it can take is people leaning their bikes against people's vehicles. That's disrespectful and I would be terribly upset if someone did it to mine. Please be respectful when taking your photographs.

Disclaimer: No offense meant for gaucho, he may know the owner of this car and have permission, but just for future reference in this thread, it needs to be mentioned.

The Healey...my all time favorite. A good friend out in Centerville had one of the largest collections of Healey parts in the US. Spent a lot of time out there working on them, TR's, MG's. Always loved the Healey the best. Nicest lines ever put to paper. Gerry Coker was an artist.

@Lascauxcaveman, this is fun even if I was disqualified. In the non-spirit of this contest, does a picture in front of a vintage snow plow count?

Once again, people, it doesn't have to be your own car, just your own bike.

You are by no means disqualified. You are encouraged to come back with a post that has two vehicles that meet the criteria. Roadgoing car/truck + bike. No trains, no SF cable "cars," no tram "cars," no vintage skateboard "trucks," etc. In fact, come back with several combos. You have enough old bikes, you could win in the cumulative score even if you don't score highest on the ultimate vintage pair.

Also, @Fairview currently leads with with a nice, round 100 points!

I'm seeing lots of pictures of part of a bike and part of a car. Can I use this picture of my 1982 Trek 614 with a 1968 Dodge Charger?

I'm thinking no.

Holy shiite, Ayatollah Andy! Does that Charger belong to you? The door panel clearly dates it to 1968-70, but it looks like an indoor (garage?) shot. See rule (5-ish). Bike is not clearly identifiable though. Take 'em outside and shoot them again? Pretty Please?

Edit: Oh, nighttime shot at a gas station maybe? Still I'd like to think of you as a guy who drives a '68 Charger. I can just picture you and your evil fellow henchman tearing through the streets of SF, being pursued by Steve McQueen in his Mustang.

Busted.

Sadly, that Charger is no longer in my garage, in no small part because it would have failed rule Z'''最初 by a considerable margin.

Bike + Car.

Ok, I'm cheating...not really, here's my 1977 BMW 320/6 (bought new by my Dad for my Mum), and my 1978 Bill Philbrook tourer - currently being rebuilt. So '77 + '78 = 162.

Fun thread, I couldn't include my pre World War One Centaur Featherweight for the lack of an older car !

John.

N.B upload full pic of BMW when I've found one. Couldn't resist including a pic of my bicycle hauler: a 1986 Volvo 745 - Wife's Dad bought it new.

These pics have been posted before, but what the heck, it's contest time!

The car is 1970 = 47 points. The bike is unknown, late '75 to mid-77, so the highest probability, and what I usually call it, is '76 = 41 points. I own both, both are in running condition.

Total 88 points. If I add the owner's age the total gets higher.
