1985 Trek 760
 

Hi all, Just posting photos of my 1985 Trek 760. I purchased this new as a special order, frame only, from the local Trek dealer. If ordered as a complete bike it came with Campy Victory components. As a frame only it came with the Victory headset which is still on the bike. I ordered as a frame only since I wanted to build it with Campy Record and Super Record components, some of which I already had. At the same time I ran across a NOS set of Victory calipers at a reasonable price and decided to use those. When I decided to mostly make the bike a display item with occasional use, I replaced the worn brake pads with new Campy Record replacements (they are actually new pads made by Campy as replacements). I still have the box the calipers came in and I found the little tabs that go on the quick release, so I put them back on. The seapost is a later generation Campy unit but one of the nicest looking IMO. I changed the original Super Record SP out later to the one shown. The high flange hubs were NOS then and still on the bike now but I had the wheels rebuilt with NOS Wolber clincher rims since I had tubulars when I was riding and did not care to continue with that. I thought I would ride the bike more with the rim change but have not had a chance to get back on it so they are still unused. The Concor saddle is a reproduction, but I had a Concor on it originally. If you look close, yep, it has a Shimano chain that I will replace soon with a Regina. Freewheel is a Regina America. 3ttt bars and stem. Nice, drilled brake levers.

The bike is well preserved but it has been ridden ALOT. In fact it looks new with no scratches or dents.

Beauty a shame not to ride it. I have never road a mid 80s trek road bike. Wonder how they ride?

Those little paper tabs on the calipers are only for shipping, to prevent the barrel adjusters from coming out of the caliper arms when there's no cable installed to put tension on the system.

:) How cool is that?! I just take the "nut" and put it on the other side of the arm so as not to loose them. I wish at least three other people had done the same before selling me the calipers!

Rides great. Performs even better. Very tight geometry makes it responsive, but you need to keep an eye on it. Great for criteriums which is what I bought it for.

I have this exact frame sitting in a closet ready to build some day. Needless to say, yours provides much inspiration.

Liking what appears to be a straight block cogset in the back. Major cred points for this frameset.

Yea, I took them off when I installed the calipers in 1985. Put them back on recently so they would not get lost. Everything on the bike looks new in spite of the mileage and I thought it added to the look. Maybe not.

Beautiful frames. So nicely made. If your frame is the same it would be hard to find the most minor defect. Not many, even the most recognized, frame builders could claim to match the quality.

Very nice! I found an '86 760 Pro Series a few years back in similar condition though yours looks much like new. Last summer I put a set of Mavic tubular wheels on it. Fun bikes!

Beautiful bike. I like those wheels you're using. They are great riding bikes. I've got the same, but all stock. I ride mine a lot and did a couple centuries on it last summer. By the way, there's a thread devoted to the 760 appreciation. Nice to see what everybody else has 760-wise. Enjoy that thing.
