Just curious. "Star" Forged do's with chrome socks-unknown frameset material. Maybe a nishiki clone?

A couple of these have surfaced previously. Both were boom era and appear to have been manufactured by Miyata. Sounds like a better model, with CrMo based on the forged dropouts and chrome stay ends. I'd appreciate the serial number, seat post diameter and more pictures. It sounds like it may be an 10P-2 or MX-R clone.

I was thinking more of a Sekine model. Would like to see a side view of the frame.

I will try and get some more pics from my friend. Will report back later.

Yeah, that's a Star branded bike. I found reference to a few of them when I was looking for info on my 1974 Miyata P-1. The stars appeared to be identical to some of the mid tier Miyata bikes from the early 70s. All of them appeared to have come from a retailer or distributor in Minnesota, and only for a few years, maybe just after the bike boom. From what I remember, their serial numbers match the Miyata format as well. From what I can tell, Miyata imported bikes to the US from maybe 1973 through 1975, then there doesn't seem to be much of anything until the late 70s, like 1978 or 79. (There are plenty of Dutch imported Koga-Miyatas starting in 76, so perhaps they pulled out of the US market then.) The finish and workmanship on my 74 P-1 (top of the line, full db chromoly) wasn't that hot. I assume the stars are similar. It wasn't bad or anything, just not up to the standard set by their production from the later 70s and especially 80s.

Haven't gotten the seat post size info. Owner said it was kitted with 'better' shimano 333/titalist/crane. SR crank. Thought I would post it for posterity. :D

The serial number is consistent with a 1973 Miyata frame.
