Strange cable guide?

I was looking at my cable guide and wondered how one would wire this using downtube shifters? Is the bike set up for standard down tube shifters? Right now it is a 1x5.

Weird

That's an interesting one. I guess I'd experiment with it. If it takes clamp on shifters, sometimes they have different cable outlets that might work.

Use a lever set up that has both cables running along the DT right side? Bar end levers? Stem levers? I do wonder what ft der was intended. Andy

maybe more pictures....if for no other reason than it looks like a interesting bike.

does it look like it ever had a front derailler? (paint different color where a clamp on would go, evidence of a small chainring, etc)

how about what the current shifter setup looks like?

may not help, but more pic is good in general

It does appear to have had a FD at some point in the last 50 years. I really have no other idea.

In the early 1950s Simplex had a double lever shifter with both levers mounted on the right hand side.

Here's one of the Simplex front derailleurs for this set-up and the cable guide.

Great find! Is that FD brazed on? Mine doesn't have any FD braze on

Apparently called the Simplex Juy

Here is a pic I found of the shifter http://bulgier.net/pics/bike/Simplex...lexShifter.jpg

It came in two versions, for mounting via clamp or brazed-on fitting..

Oh great now I need one of these.

Great looking bike

To expand, it's a Simplex Juy 51/53

And now I need one. If it appears on eBay, Bianchigirll and I may be bidding against each other!

Regarding the twin shifter and cable routing, this Swiss Mondia is a treat >

...would hate to have to replace cable housings on that!

Now that you have a second Rattray can a dealership or collection be far off? ;) Time to begin accumulating some ephemera to go along with the cycles: signage, posters, catalogues, brochures, musettes, w/b's, etc.

Have you been in contact with the VCC mark enthusiast?

Regarding the earlier headset query - note that this example wearing a Brampton Aletet set. Monsieur Vagner's hat size will like be the same as that of his cousin...

Will be fascinating to follow along with these excellent pieces. :)
