Questions about Holdsworth frameset
I picked up this Holdsworth frameset last weekend, and I'm not sure what model it is.
I've read a bunch of Holdsworth threads here, including the serial number one. My serial number is 026204, which makes it a 1980. I'm assuming it's either a Mistral or Special since it has fender eyelets, but I'm not sure how to tell the difference between the two. It has Campagnolo dropouts and the rear spacing is 120mm. A couple things seem a little different about it: It only has the Holdsworth name on the seat tube, which I haven't seen. Also, it appears to be chrome plated under the paint. Besides the dropoouts, chrome can be seen under the paint on the chainstay cable stops, and on the fork crown.
Lastly, the bad news: the drive side chain stay has been pretty chewed up by chain suck, and in the same area it has a decent sized dent, right where the tube enters the bb shell lug. It's hard to tell from the pictures, but some of the gouges on the chainstay seem pretty deep. Are these issues anything to be worried about?

No expert here, ugly yes, maybe more than superficial, dangerous probably not but you will need to take it to a framebuilder so they can put their eyeball and hands on it to be sure. Aside from that a very cool frame, nice score.

Prugnat I lugs make frame #026204 a Mistral. (The Mistral had lost full wrap around seat stays by 80's.)

Cool frame ! For a Holdsworth that fits you, its worth the effort and expense to put it right with that kind of damage.
+1 to having a frame builder look at it. Might only need some brass laid in and smoothed over with a paint match.
Good grab.
