Schwinn Corner

1 Attachment(s)
I'm still very new to this whole hobby and have a TON to learn...but I am having a blast trying to figure a few things out.

Almost by accident, I am gathering a small sampling of Schwinn road bikes from 1962-1985. I picked up a 1976 Superior that fit right in the corner of my unfinished basement. It's becoming the Schwinn Corner. (I've also got a couple neon Schwinn dealers signs hanging down there as well.) It's starting to look like a collection....at least to me.

From left to right...
1985 Peloton
1976 Superior
1975 Paramount
1973 World Voyaguer
1962 Continental (not as high end, but I love it's look and its original condition. My brother found it at a Salvation Army Store in Naples, Florida while on a business trip a few years back and drug it home for me in a rental car. Ha.)

Hope you're having a good week.

Sweet! Looks like you now love being told to go sit in the corner!

alexander55 03-22-17 09:50 AM

Ha. That's a great line. Actually - I do. I have a rocking chair down there facing the lineup and sometimes I just go down there and SIT.

Nice collection!

Great to see someone else appreciates the Schwinn marque. Sad to see that someone else is collecting Schwinns in the same size frame as me...

Love that World Voyager! On my list. +1 to the sitting with the steeds, do that too!

If you're ever near Pittsburgh, you need to visit a place there called Bicycle Heaven.

Here's just a teaser from one of the back rooms you have to walk through to get to their main collection:

Most of their bikes are Stingrays, but they have a decent assortment of other Schwinns as well, not to mention more than half of the Bowden Spacelanders still in existence and the Pee Wee Herman bike.

That's a pretty good start, I'd say!

Awesome, nice collection

I didn't know the World Voyageur went that far back (I'm not a Schwinn guy, per se), but that looks very classy and well outfitted. More pics???

Nice library of collectible Schwinn road bikes.

I hang my bikes by make and continent in clusters;

Trek, Schwinn, Cannondale.

Raleigh, Peugeot, Motobecane.

Centurion, Lotus, Fuji, Bridgestone, Miyata.

I had the chance to visit for the first time last July. AMAZING.

Great idea to arrange geographically.

Just brought this one home this week. I haven't touched it...even to knock off the dust...so I think it will look much better after a bit of work.

alexander55 03-23-17 10:16 PM

Why upside down? Can't figure out how to delete. Sorry.

Original picture ended up upside down. I guess I have it corrected. Sorry I don't have better pictures of the Peleton. Thought I had taken some when I had it out for a ride...but can't find them.

Thanks again for your interest and information. I'm learning a lot.

Good luck with your collections.

Those are some amazing Schwinns you have, very nicely presented. The Superior in particular looks very tasty, those just don't get enough bandwidth IMHO. Until I became active here, I had never even heard of them, I haunted the local Schwinn shop, Escambia Schwinn Cyclery, for several years in the early 70s, and none were on the racks there that I can recall. Now I see them here occasionally and they seem to be first rate bikes. If you would, please post some pics as you restore/clean up the Superior, and when it is completed.

Great Schwinn collection! Do you rotate them for riding! The '62 Continental's condition is simply amazing!

However, I've been looking at your crankset and realizing it is not original or has been modified. The '62 catalog page shows the crankset I'm remembering. Something like 52-49 chainrings. Can you provide a closeup picture? Thanks!

Interesting comment/question regarding the crank. I honestly don't know...am learning a lot. Here's the best picture I have at the moment. Hope this helps.
