Simplex/Spidel SLJ 5500 mounting question

I recently received a Spidel SLJ 5500 rear derailleur. Due to the orientation of the little pin, the stop plate seems turned around almost 180 degrees from where it should be. When I try to mount the derailleur, I can't get the tab on the stop plate to sit on the front of the hanger. Does anyone have any advice to get this to work? The bike is 1980 Peugeot Super Competition so I'm assuming the hanger isn't an issue.

I have the look alike on my Super Competition. I could not get it to tension enough, then realized I needed to spin the cage 1 full circle to get it to work with propper spring tension. Not sure if that is your issue? Once I did that, everything fell into place.

You can spin that back plate by using an Allen wrench from the front.

Thanks, Steve, that did the trick. I found out along the way that you can pop out the white cap (dust cover) by pushing from the opposite end.
