Post over in Classic/Vintage. Or try searching the forums, I know I have seen that name tossed around the CV forum.

I have a Batavus, they are Dutch and the brand still exists.
Not sure only quality but the frame is light and has held up fine

I think it is a "Champion"

Truth!
I've even got my parents looking for trashed bikes. My dad pulled an old lugged road frame out of the trash for me. But the best find was stock Bianchi pista (presumably) wheelset. It was missing a spoke, so I guess someone couldn't use it anymore...

This one by any chance? Value about 100 euro's, over here in its home country, the Netherlands.

Batavus (depending on model) is gold.
Not sure about the Course (S70rguy you have any ideas?)
they are better known here in the states
for mopeds and such, which is a shame given the
heritage of the marque.

Well, I'm guessing here. I'd say the Course is a middle of the line-up model, Criterium and Professional being the top of the line models. Depending on its age it could have 531 or 501 tubing, and probably mudguard eyelets. Chrome would be reserved for the high end models. But, I'm gueesing here.

Marty, s70rguy -

I picked up a Batavus "Champion" today. Very, very orange; seat tube decal says "Intercycle", and decals on the fork and top tube have an "IC" logo on them; the fork also has a logo of two cyclists riding in opposite directions. Huret derailleurs; steel cottered cranks; steel wheels - rear hub is a Shimano 333, front hub is something else - it has a "u" or lowercase "n" in a shield stamped on it; rubber "Grand Prix" saddle marked "Made in Italy". I'm guessing late 60s or early 70s, but that's absolutely only a guess; I can't find a date on it anywhere.

Any idea exactly what I've got here? It's BEAUTIFUL and in nearly immaculate condition; it's also too big for me! I'm mostly trying to figure out whether it's worth keeping complete and trying to sell, or whether to hand it off to a taller friend, who will strip it and use the frame.

Thanks in advance!

-chris

Chris,

I really don't know a whole lot about Batavus, I try to focus
on more obscure Dutch bikes (Zieleman, De Reus, Joco, Jabo etc.)
Batavus is still in production, they might be able to help ID the
bike.
I'm thinking mid level, based on what I've seen them go for on
the dutch auction sites. s70rguy can probably verify this?
Orange? well its a dutch bike so I'm not surprized.
Here are some photo's of Batavus Champions I've managed
to squirrel out from different sites:

As far as I know, the Champion falls into the boat anchor category. Will last a long time though, one of my friends still has his Batavus Champion from the end of the 70s (like the one in the middle picture). He thinks it's a racing bike, I disagree.

The champions from what I've gather
from pics seem to span from boat anchor
(middle pic) to mid level (first pic). The last
pic, not sure of the model, I just like the
colour scheme. However I defer to s70rguy

Fr.

Last one I got was about the Reus which I answered. Is there
some update I haven't gotten yet?
(hopefully!).
60Euro is fine with me if that's the question.

OK, so here's where my knowledge ends. I think you're absolutely right about the span of quality for this model. I've included two more pics to illustrate this point. They're both Champions (not, really!).
