Surprise find for Atlanta, eh? Suddenly N+4 but you couldn't slap the grin off my face right now.

"Behringer Custom" popped up on CL recently and I was mum here because I secretly wanted it. When I see distinct pieces of history like this or just damn nice bikes, I often send the seller a note of appreciation. Awesome bikes are awesome. This time was no different: I reached out to say it was damn fine, unusual for these parts, and I wish my slush fund was a little less haggardly.

That compliment turned into a colorful conversation with the seller, possibly one of the coolest people I've ever met thru CL. 24 hours after that compliment, an unexpected sale put me in the ballpark to make an offer. Seller dropped the price 20% and, to sweeten the deal at that price, tossed in a 52cm '82 PFN10 (Vitus, not sure why it's not PVN10) that's very-restorable and size-appropriate for my better half which helped divert her scrutiny.

Anyway, just got both home, and I'm excitedly I'm sharing the Behringer on BF since I know some of you are familiar with the legend and others probably haven't even seen one. I've seen two others in my lifetime and both were track bikes. To the point I wasn't sure if it was legit until I saw the stay caps - sorta hard to dispute who made it.

Seller bought this used while living in Minneapolis many many years before. The Columbus sticker styling and RD dating peg this at early-mid 70s (1974). I'm not accustomed to seeing bikes of the era using braze-on TT guides and tapered stays so I was surprised? Love the meticulous lug filing, tapering, smooth seams, gorgeous almost dark metallic aquamarine paint. I could stare at this for hours.

Only really stand-out weird thing I see is mixed Fiamme tubulars.

But hey, without further adieu, some pics. I'll probably send some hi-res ones over to Dale/CR when it's cleaned up to add to what little they have.

[MENTION=61463]gomango[/MENTION], have you always been in MN? The two other Behringers I've seen were from Illinois (owner lived/bought in MN) and a MN native. I've never seen one this far south.

No ride report yet. Glue on both tubulars is at least 10-15 years old and I don't trust it. Front tubular has a gaping hole. Rear wheel needed truing. I've got a Wheelset downstairs to fit with solid tires but pending repack. That'll be my mission tomorrow, but Mother's Day will impact that. I think I might be urging her to a spa day and putting the offspring with a movie ;)...

For American builders, this is one of the niche I'd wanted to ride something by for a while, so I'm anxious. Icing on the cake I got a French bike out of the deal though ;)

Nice score! Beautiful craftsmanship, rare frame. I swear, this is the kind of bike I like. Like my Sparrow. Very nice workmanship but built in small numbers. We should do a thread on bikes like these; it would be great to have a one-stop shop for the quality-not-quantity builders.

Born and raised in Minnesota.

I know of four to five of these currently and they all are very nice.

Two are crit bikes, while the others are a track and tt bike.

The fifth is a bare frame at my buddies' house.

Yours is exceptional.

I am the original owner of one track and one crit Behringer bike plus I own my sisters two Behringer bikes as well. All four bikes are youth bikes. I am also considering selling a beautiful 3Rensho all original paint.

Man, those are gorgeous. Is it an optical illusion, or are those chainstays extra-extra stout?

I really wish the decals on mine were in better shape. Still need to get the bike torn down and polished up. We're in a hot period right now for flip material so all my personal projects are suffering.

I at least got to (@3speedslow;)get it out on a maiden voyage with a Tipo wheelset I picked up on the cheap recently. Really light and responsive and quieter than most of the bikes I'm accustomed to riding. Does feel a little on the small side for me, though. Might be able to tweak to fit but won't be comfortable on long rides. Wouldn't mind having the same bike closer to a 59.

It was the "pro" thing way back to have matching road and track bikes.

Which reminds me that an owner of a very good local pro shop has a couple of Behringers on his wall.

One of his is a track bike, while the other was his time trial steed.

Maybe I'll try to get a pic or two next time I stop by.

If I was a self funded junior category rider today, it would be tough, have to add a time trial mount too...
