Help identifying an old Peugeot
1 Attachment(s)
I am new at this forum and to the vintage bicycle hoarding , been obsessed with bicycles when i was i kid, rode everyday until bikes started to get nicked until the last one a 08' Specialized Rockhopper was stollen i gave it up for 5 years, until last two weeks i bought a 70's Órbita road bike (portuguese brand), so today i brought this home, a Peugeot with 103 carbolite tubing, simplex s002 rear deraillieur, mafac center brakes, regina chrome wheels and no front derailleur or front shifters.
Here it is the bike. |
Decal set was used for ~4 years between 79-82(ish0 depending on region. This looks like a junior sized bike, I'm pretty sure junior bikes were the only ones that still had cottered cranks by the time this decal set was being used. In which case it would be a J10 or maybe a J8, but I may be wrong.

I havent measured yet, but it is a 55cm and wheels are 700c x 28, its weird but i cant find in the catalogs with the fenders and lights, especially with the 5 speed configuration, its is written "Sport" on the frame, but thanks for the help, maybe the serial number could help identifying the model?

I concur with the time frame. However, it is strange to see wing nuts for this era. The presence of a generator tab, internal cabling and seat tube pump peg suggests a European market town and country model. There were 5 speed versions, so this may be the OEM set-up. However, it is a bit strange to see wing nuts for this era. The serial number will allow us to determine the year, after which we should be able to narrow down the model. If it still has the paper sticker on the underside of the shell or chain stays, then that will tell us the model.

Can't see close enough but is there a second boss for the front shifter? Any indication a front derailleur was ever mounted on the seat tube?

It might be a European model.
Carbolite 103 is essentially plain gauge carbon steel and was used on the UO-8 successors, such as the UO-10. In the 1970s Peugeot sold four base models in the US: UO-8 (high-flange hubs with cam-operated quick release, half-chrome fork, full wrap handlebar tape), UO-18 (same compnents, on a mixte frame, sometimes with upright handlebars), UE-8 (UO-8 with lights, dynamo, and mudguards), and AO-8 (low-flange hubs with wingnuts, painted fork, half/sprint wrap handlebar tape). Based on this, I am guessing you have a 5-speed successor to the AE-8, and likely something not sold in the US. Paint and decals closely resemble those of my 1980 PKN-10 Competition (8-digit S/N started with B0, where the 0 indicates 1980). The serial number may be able to help you pinpoint the year of yours. |
Will check the serial number and take new pictures, just checked if the Dino works and it does! Well only the front light bulb...
Definitely no sign of a front shifter, maybe its European Only model. Its going to be a nice project, needs tires, brake pads, chain, etc not a museum piece, but i think it is worth to put back on the road again, btw i paid 60 euros. Thanks for the support guys. |
