MBK downtube cable stop

Hi,

I have an MBK Mirage which has downtube shifters (Shimano r100). I want to convert to brifters and I am trying to fit downtube cable stops.

However, the brazed on mounts have a rectangular profile and protrude further than can be accommodated by the cable stops that I have.

Does anyone know of a brand that will fit this bike?

cheers. Guy.

If they're the old Shimano-specific bosses you may have to get creative with a file or a Dremel.

At one time there was a product called The Diablo Kit for this application. Likely long out of production; made in USA.

I'm sure there's a thread here somewhere about how to adapt the cable stops, but I can't seem to find it. What it boiled down to was filing the base of the stops to accommodate for the extra bit of steel of the braze-ons.

EDIT: here's a post with a picture of what I mean.

I modified cable stops to fit over Shimano Type-A shifter keyhole shaped braze-ons. I screwed them, upside down, into a piece of wood, put that in the vice, then removed the material inside the stops with a 1/2 drill bit. A barrel shaped stop will give you the most room to work with.

Thanks for the suggestions. I wasn't expecting so many so quickly!
I think that I may be able to bodge it with a curved face spacer/washer - the current hole size is ok, it just seems that the depth of the cable stop isn't big enough for the braze on (and I don't want to wreck the bike by cutting off some of the barazed on fitting).

cheers all.

Cannot now recall the name of the maker. Think they may have been located in Concord, California. The name Diablo comes from a local mountain & valley.

Diablo was the product name. Performance and Euro Asia sold them, among other vendors. Mine are still in the wrapper.

Hi folks,

update - I was creative with a file on the fitting, not the bike thank goodness, fitted the brifters and went for a ride.
Everything worked fine but I didn't feel right with the brifters, either ergonomically or visually. I have now changed back to the original downtube shifters and am in the process of retraining myself to use them.
It seems that, for me, keeping the bike as original as possible is going to be more satisfying!

Thanks for the advice though. Guy.
