Strange Schwinn serial number

I have decided to drag my old 10 speed out of storage and get some exercise. I have a Schwinn that has "Le Tour Tourist" across the top bar. The serial is on the left rear Fork end and as far as I can figure out, very strange. It is 1G08023. As you can tell, I know next to nothing about bikes. And I can find nothing on this serial. The badge on the front is round with Schwinn Chicago. Any help finding out what year this bike is? Thanks for anything!

What is the small 4-digit number stamped in the headbadge? Can you post a link to a picture of the serial number? It is most likely an '81 Le Tour Tourist:

Hi Rob,

welcome to the forums.

The serial number format and location is for frame manufacturer Panasonic of Japan . The "1" is for 1981, year of frame manufacture. The "G" is the month of manufacture, month seven, July.

Thanks, guys. 1981 seems about right. Boy, the memory is the second to go, isn't it?
