Thank you ALL for taking the time to comment. You guys have an awesome collection of knowledge.

@1987 the grey cable housing is not vintage. Its new i got it from Yellow jersey along with the campy shifter & brake cables.

The bar wrapping looks very well done Jude. I'm glad to help you out with this build, your enthusiasm is warming to have here. I think you'll find the people in the C&V Forum are all ready to share the knowledge they a cumulated in the many years of experience with these bikes that bind us together.

The Masi is looking very nice, I got the gum hoods for the brake levers on my Tommasini from the same person on eBay. He has some nice examples and his prices are decent and fair compared to some of the other sellers of the hoods. Those have a lighter color tone and they are softer than the previous pair that are on my Medici. Eventually it will have some of the Belgian items on the brake pylons.

Please keep posting your updates, you do a good job on them.

Bill

Looks like the build is going great!

I see only one problem. I would like to see larger photos
If you upload the photos to Imgur, Dropbox or Google Drive you can then embed larger photos in the forum.

My fav bartape wrapping video and method:
Old video, he sounds like RJ The Bike Guy.

Unfortunately DD I am coming to the end of my allotted monies for the Masi. I will be returning to Saudi for 35 days in a couple of weeks. I work a 35 day on 35 day off rotation. I am in the middle of changing companies so i have had an extended time off, as in i haven't worked since March 19th. Lol Im not complaining although my bank account is. haha
i will be back in early august so it will be a sept finish date for sure. I have also decided to buy another bike to ride as a primary. I am going to ride the Masi for sure, but im going to start putting my "work in" on something else. I have also got the itch and am looking at craigs list and other places for cool bikes. Lastly i would like to report i haven't had a death stick since i decided not to sell the Masi. I get on this site everyday and i think if these guys can do this, so can I.
Thanks to all who have shown an interest and asked my endless questions. You people are doing more for me than you know.

Kindest Regards
Jude Angelo C.

Please keep up the smoking cessation, several folks here have done the quitting routine and made it through that time in hell. I lost both my father and father-in-law to smoking related diseases, I had to kick pipe smoking in order to receive spinal fusion surgery, that is one of the smartest things I have accomplished, but after smoking pipes from 1974 until 2003 it wasn't one of the easiest things I undertook. One day at a time, one less cigarette each craving you can work past.

The Masi, and especially honoring your Uncle, both deserve you staying small free!

Bill

That is the best bit of news on this entire thread - good on you! I quit three years ago and it was the best thing I ever did for myself. I weaned myself off slowly by using a vaping device for about 10 months. I'd tried cold-turkey a few times but it just never took. Vaping did the trick (slowly reducing my nicotine levels over those 10 months). Stick with it, man - you'll be glad you did

Okay back to work Got home the 3rd and I just found a sweet deal on a 75 Campy Record Italian Thread 32h Rear Hub. Some of you may cringe lol but as soon as it arrives I am boxing it up and sending it to yellow jersey to be laced on to a Martano i have for it Wheel building would not be my strong suit I am also sending them a set of Fiamme Ergal's to be checked and rear hub converted back to a quick release, was set up as a track hub when i found them. Galli hubs should ride nicely ? I know me and i will ride the martanos as well just to see what it feels like
now where to find boxes for rims ??? lol

Glad to be home and will be posting some pics soon. I am going to make some ground this time home

Just FYI, 32h hubs with Ergal rims is a very light set up. BITD that would have been for race wheels for a rider under 150lbs.

Galli hubs are fine. Been a while, but IIRC not quite as glass smooth as campy though similar in quality. Hubs don't realistically make much difference unless they break.

Looks fun...I sold my Masi with twin plate fork...oh man I miss the frame. But it got a full restore by somebody...so it's all good.

I think I have a 24 hole Martano NOS...in the garage if you need it.

Welcome back to the world, I wish you had said something about building the wheels, its not difficult to do, I just let our LBS owner, an old friend, true and tension them. Both of my sets are my builds, you could do it easily. I just passed on my wheel box for mailing tona local in need.

As far as a box for mailing your rims out, get a bicycle box from a shop and I can help you cut it down and get things padded and secure, if you want. Its time for me to head by the LBS for some things, if you want I can see about a box there, they give them to customers.

Building wheels is easy or problematic. A man has got to know his limitations. I like Martanos but I would not want that rim to be my first build, nor a Fiamme for different reasons, those rims do not tolerate over tensioning well at all. First experience should be a front, equal length spokes, best way to learn the entire dynamics of truing and tension.

Well I feel that he has this planned out with Yellow Jersey, I have a single set of Martano rim wheels to my credit, and that was many moons ago. For a customer at an LBS that was needing them fast and the mechanics were slammed. They did true and tension them, thank goodness.

Jude is fortunate he has others here, and on the forum, that are more knowledgable and skilled than me, to listen to and learn from. And I wouldn't dream of doing his final truing and tensioning either, that limit I am familiar with. He can rest easy.

hey Bill !!!

hope as is well with you, also hope this storm doesnt roll our way. i have ordered the last thing i need now the rear campy hub. new saddle and pumps etc can come as i find them. as soon as the hub comes in the wheels are going out. i found two boxes that will work. i am putting a couple of cubic feet of foam in them

i talked to yello j on the phone and they are going to service the hubs, change any spokes if need be,
the galli rear has a track set up, have it changed to a skewer, and put tires on them. so in two weeks i am hoping to be gong for my first ride on it since 97 or 98 i guess.

i will put it the car and come see you, ride a mile or two ? or let me buy ya a sandwich or what not and swap stories. im looking for a colnago super next. lol

Oh, yer OK then. Avoid cobblestones and curb jumping. That's about what I weighed when I was 15. I saved the ergals for racing, but they held up well for that. As has been mentioned, best stick to vintage spoke tensions. I'd assume the yellow jersey guys know this...

That sounds great Jude, the Masi is going to be really nice. Your relative should be real proud of the details you went for. What pump are you looking to use? If you need a Silca Impero I have white one, with a fresh leather plunger cup in place, a Campagnolo head and some blue feet covers on the frame clips. If you need it let me know, I don't use/need it, I carry a Topeak mini-Morph for the tubs, and a CO2 inflator for clinchers.

The wheels should be some quality items, its a pretty good idea to have two separate sets, for show and for go. I hear that YJ are good people, but that website could drive a priest to drink. Calling them is probably a truly smart decision. And hopefully the parts remaining will turn up quickly.

i know that website is a monster.i just call them. there is something to be said for a shop that has been open everyday since 1971. andrew really nice guy, been there quite some time, says they love doing the vintage stuff. if I ever find one i will get the silca with the masi stamp. I will buy the silca though will look good color-wise against the bike. will pm you my details.
