Tire recommendation
 

In between working on my sweeties 650b conversion I cleaned up my Trek 660 and rode it this morning.

A huge difference from the tandem and my cruzerized MB-6. I can't say it's twitchy, but it sure changes direction telepathically. Will have to see if I can still manage drops.

Gatorskins 700c x 28 seem pretty harsh these days. The bike and I are 200 pounds. Tires inflated to 75/85 psi. BITD I would put at least 100 psi.

Tires measure 27 today on Matrix aero rims. I slipped a 6mm Allen key around the tires, top of the fork & brake bridge will be the tight spots I believe. Brakes will need to change.

I am looking to try 32's if anyone thinks they will fit. 650b x 38's will clear but for now I want to keep this bike 700c.

Your thoughts and opinions please. Any discussion of changes to the way the bike handles much appreciated, especially 650b.

Probably too cheap for Compass tires.

my 40mm Michelin Protek 700c Tires mounted up at full pressure (87psi) a good 3mm over 40. not sure the smaller 28mm tires would inflate larger. so far mine seem pretty cushy at lower pressures (40psi front & 50psi rear) without deforming at all BUT ARE CONSIDERABLY NARROWER. maybe you can mount up some 35s and run them lower psi so that they measure 30mm

If you don't want to spend on Compass tires, you could get their younger brother, the Panaracer Pasela. I like them, and the price is good.

I like 700x28 Conti Grand Prix 4000S II's. On DT Swiss R460 rims they plump up to around 30mm. If you think you've got room for 32s, the Conti GP 4 Seasons come in that size and even on wide rims they don't go much over 33mm. If those aren't plush enough for you I don't see any way around the 650B conversion.
