Simplex SX410 cable routing
I'm getting close to having my PX-10 on the road. I need to hook up the derailleurs and chain, then I think I'm about ready to go.
As someone who's never used Simplex derailleurs before, I'm a little mystified by the placement of the cable stop and its relationship to the cable clamp. It seems like the cable is going to frequently exit the cable stop on the derailleur upper pivot and make a fairly sharp bend to go to the clamp on the parallelogram. If the cable stop pivots, what keeps the housing from hitting the freewheel? Am I missing something? Can someone provide a picture of one of these puppies already set up? https://farm5.staticflickr.com/4205/...8b1862b1_b.jpg |

It will all come together when you put the chain on. Just make sure your spring tension is strong for pulling the cage back against the chain. Mine gave me fits with loose chain tension before I realized I had to spin the cage around 360 degrees to tension the spring.Attachment 570092

My 1973 has a similar set-up, differing only with a bit more cable casing support. Your routing should match mine...

Just got the rear derailleur hooked up. In the process I figured out how I was looking wrong at the cable clamp. I thought it was supposed to go out back under the little tab which keeps the washer from spinning when you tighten the bolt. Just as I was about to insert the cable, I noticed the mark from previous cable runs. That mark is visible in my original image. I just didn't notice it before. So, all is good.
