Great. Yes, I thought you spoke a germanic language. And it's the same the other way around, I can understand quite a bit of Dutch when I read each syllable out loud.

Lemond's "Le Vanquer". It should be "Le Vainqueur", if it were to actually mean anything. Kind of ironic. Kind of lazy maybe? Did someone phone it in to the decal maker and spell it phonetically? Did no one think to look it up or ask someone who spoke French? Were there no Weinmann brakes about? And why wasn't it corrected? Decals are relatively inexpensive. Or did they try really hard to misspell it as much as possible?

A few years ago, at a B4H Vintage Bicycle Yard sale, held two times a year, at Lakehead University, a young lady walked up to an old step through from one of Canada's major department stores. The bike was a Free Spirit. The young woman took one look, said "That's me" and bought the bike(the purple mixte just in front of the young lady)...

Imho, As far as brand names, two that stand out as solid names are Trek and Litespeed.. both conjure up an appropriate mental image that is conducive to selling the bicycling image. As far as a "bicycle name", I thought Gary Fishers Hoo Koo E Koo was a real marketing tour-de-force. It may have been the only bicycle I ever lusted after based on name only. The Schwinn Paramount, the Fuji Finest, the Sears Free-Spirit, and the Huffy "The Dude" would be some worthy honorable mentions too.

Clark-Kent is another good bicycle brand name.
...and not bicycles, but bicycle-related: Some chamois creams have humorous names. DZ Nuts, Gooch Guard, etc.

What about Jimmy Osmond's "Swing Bike"?
Sure piqued one's interest when you hear the name of the bike,.....but then, some referred to it as the "Death Bike", I guess because one is liable to crash at least a few times on it before figuring out how to ride it.
I wonder where the Osmond lawyers were when little Jimmy signed up to endorse the bike......

I think vintage BMX owns this category
Powerlite
Race Inc
Torker
Mongoose
Redline
Skyway
Diamondback
All very cool names IMO.
Road bikes... I've always thought Litespeed was a cool name

I remember reading about how FUSO got its name - Italian for "molten", kind of.
Then I painted my old Sekai and wanted to give it a similar name so I was looking up cycling related words in my Italian dictionary and settled on MARTELLO - which means "hammer".
As to actual brands, I always liked LANDSHARK.

around here some wise guy goes around slightly modifying the Trucker part so that the first bit looks like an F
and I agree with Mongoose. the name alone made me lust after one when I was 10 years old. I mean the thing could kill cobras...
