Lovely. As you know, I've lusted after a Zunow for years. So...jealous.
Will look forward to seeing it at the Dare next month, and will happily wait for you at the top of the hills you'll have to walk with 42/26 gearing.

Fantastic! I was getting anxious with all the pics of the frame and none of the fork toward the beginning. Phew, it's there. Rudi did an exceptional bit of work on that saddle, the guy's got skills!
Enjoy, that's a beauty, great that it found its way out of the dumpster and back onto the road.
Thanks for all the pics/description. Will be fun to see it get race ready.

Don't look too close at this one. Not the condition caliber of your immaculate 'riders'. This one is really loaded with surface spots but to repaint and graphic would be a heavy job and princely sum.
Anyways, we've been hit with heavy rains and flooding in the surrounding counties. Returned home and found a tree down laying near the back door. Area water main broke with a notice of boil order. Here's a neighbor (a few affected by retaining wall collapse, and not permitted to enter their homes).
Went to give a friend a hand sandbagging and lay plastic sheeting. His electric is still on and lucky so far to keep the sumps running. Nutz.

Got a little time in for assembly. BTW: How ironic but being I was working outside near our hummingbird feeder, a little dark colored one buzzed me and checked the bike out! Coolest darned thing.

Late hours bike therapy. Its a race to see which one of these two gets finished first.
Both sport lower level components. The contender from Japan with Suntour Edge. The obnoxious Italian with Campy Triomphe, brakes are Modolo Equipe.
As depicted, the one on the left weighs 17 1/2 lbs. and the right jobbie 21 1/2 lbs. :-/
Zunow has bars but awaiting stem and the Basso has a stem but awaiting bars..............

^^hehe-
Have a hunch the moment I get on that Zunow, might be a long ride into the sunset. Both were acquired as framesets only and ironic, similar cosmetic condition. Rider level but even so are show-offs and loud!
Fun for me seeing the lower to mid grade parts. I like this forgotten stuff.

Not to detract from the Zunow, but the Basso came out of Denver Spoke in 1985.
Note Alexi's britches though riding a Pin.

Thought it fitting for a pair of Cobra bidon's (NOS circa '85 Coor's Classic - Greg LeMond overall winner).

I can't believe someone would throw out a wicked frame like that
Very cool bike. My cousin raced a Zunow back around '88 or so. Should see if he still has it... IIRC we rode the same size frame...

Bit o life complication lately but by sneaking in very late and early AM bike time hours, finally finished the bird. As depicted weighs a tick under 22 1/2 lbs. The bar set-up piled on the weight. Anyways, only took a quick 8 mile tweak and adjustment ride. Feels delightful though not enough in the saddle to give a fair report. Burst climb and the bottom end shows no torsional toying around. Me likey.
Apologize for the awful phone cam pics, but for starts.....
No joking here, I had a few pretty hummingbirds getting a peak and quick replenish.

Patience pays. To replace the Thompson, I found a nice zero offset seatpost from Jamie Swan while at the CR event in Greensboro. Not sure who made it but I like the look of the lug.

Then just today, picked these up locally from the original owner! Excellent condition LOOK's.

Really looks Cool and your patience did indeed amazingly pay off.
Other top triatletes of the '80s who rode a Zunow at sometime during their career were the Puntous twins, Wolfgang Dietrich, Mike Pigg, and Dave Scott.
